With the Murcielago nearing the end of its life cycle, Lamborghini is looking to send off its supercar with a bang. The Italian automaker will reportedly offer a more powerful and lighter weight version of the Murcielago under the SV nameplate.
Rumored to arrive in late 2008, the SV will offer more horsepower than the Reventon’s 640 ponies and will weigh in 100 kg less than the standard Murcielago.
To save weight, the SV will forgo the Murcielago four-wheel drive system for a lighter rear-wheel drive setup. The SV will also swap the Murcielago’s automatic spoilers for a fixed set and will wear lighter wheels. Many interior pieces will also be made of carbon fiber to save weight.
Lamborghini’s E-gear will be standard, but shift times will be decreased by half.

OLD NEWS REALLY!
Expect 680-700bhp
0-60 in about 2.9 secs
and a huge price tag
I’ll take two!
Does LLN just pull stories out of AutoWeek and make them their own??
Homeboy, I mean LP640, get over yourself start commenting when your balls have dropped
6th comment!
Boring thread got you down? Check out wickedweasel.com
SWEET! this is going to be the ****. The Murcielago is so bad ass.
When did people start calling first and second comment on LLN? retarded
will it get me fired?
Also…a Murcie with REAR WHEEL DRIVE. That will be something to see. the AWD system adds so much weight, I’d like to see this SV with a traditional manual as an option, but the e-gear isn’t a bad dual clutch. This is gonna be the ****.
Labo, only LP640 it seems.
This Murcie looks pretty sweet, too bad it’ll be ridiculously expensive. I dislike most AWD systems, so a RWD Murcielago is music to my ears.
jjt- just tell your boss you’re doing your Christmas shopping. You’ll see.
It’ll be interesting to see what comes after the Mercy.
I wonder if it’ll handle better with rwd… Every test or review I’ve read or watched about the Murcielago hints at it being rather hairy to drive near the limit (a very high limit, mind you), despite it having tons of grip. It transitions suddenly and violently into oversteer, and is near impossible to save even with armfuls of opposite lock. That’s what the “experts” say anyway. I wonder if it’ll handle more progressively… albeit with slightly less grip? It may actually be easier to drive fast (more tossable too, due to the weight loss). Any thoughts anybody?
jamaicandude: Thank you for coming up with a thought provoking subtopic. Not many of those on LLN other than arguing about random ****. Personally, I think that this will make the Murcie more of a track car, as opposed to what it is now, which is a car that is insane in a straight line, and up until 9/10’s will perform just fine in the twisties, but at 10/10’s it’s weight and AWD system keep it from being all it can be. I think that this RWD system will of course improve its straight line/accelerative performance, but will make this a far more well rounded vehicle in terms of driving in a variety of different environments, tracks and twists included, at 10/10’s this time. Less grip, but more control and stability?

People have doing this for quite a while. You must have your head shoved up ar ass not to notice.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. A car is much easier to drive fast when you know it won’t throw you any surprises and catch you off guard. You’ve got more confidence to push it to the limit, and if the handling is progressive enough, you can keep it right on the limit of adhesion. Even letting all four wheels drift through the higher speed, increasing radius turns. The lighter weight in front should help it rotate better off throttle too, making it easier to hit the apex in the turns. I’m an old circuit racer at heart, so I know that massive grip isn’t the end all in good handling.
What a car…what a ****ing masterpiece.
ok, now that we know that’ll be a SV let’s wait the VT
LP640: I try my best to fend off pre-pubescent chatter, and if sticking my head up my ass is what I gotta do to do that…well so be it. And by people, you mean you.
21st comment!
And how do they expect to put that kind of power down to the ground without AWD?
j-dude: That;s why the 300GT VR-4 is so hard to handle at high throttle!
That’s one bad-ass Lambo. ? is how much will it cost?
jackjim: Most awd cars are. They either understeer all the time or snap into oversteer when you provoke them. Only Mitsubishi and Nissan seem to have consistently exorcised those demons in the Evo’s and Skyline GT-Rs. Even Subaru Sti’s do that (except the Spec C… that car seems hardwired to your brain… better than an Evo, I think.)… they default to understeer at first. Give them more power, they understeer some more. Squeeze a bit more and it snaps into oversteer… quite nerve wracking if you’re not prepared for it.
jonmiles: The “regular” Murcielago already has 335 section width rear tires. Maybe they’ll opt for slightly wider meats, more aggressive rubber and a tighter LSD… along with some form of traction control to help tame the horses on this SV model. That’s what tuners like Lingenfelter and Hennessey do with their high powered Vettes and Vipers (minus the traction control of course).
26TH Comme-oh i give up….
it seems lambo’s car rotation is getting shorter isn’t it?
I wish I had money……lots of money.
Reincarnation must be the answer.
I don’t really like white cars.
Don’t worry, LP640 is just mad his stupid nick is not the top-of-the-line Lamborghini anymore. B.t.w, you’re just confirming what a retard you are with your first comment posts…
So what’s the price difference between this and a Lingenfelter Z06?
Who knows but I’ll take a twin turbo Lingenfelter ZO6 over a Lambo anyday. Unless it was the Reventon.
Sweet, Ferraris dont use four wheel drive and for a reason.
1st: Not only is it a packaging nightmare on a rear drive car but it forces compromises in design of chassis and frnt suspension geometry and increases unsprung weight.
2nd: It adds weight and increases parasitic powerloss (more gears and pumps to drive).
3rd: Adds costs that could be spent elswhere.
i juat have 1 question. What beautiful car can ever replace the Murcielago? WHAT? WHAT!?!?!?!?!
LM?
Big powerslides as standard. I can’t wait to see it on TopGear. Should be a match for the Koenigsegg CCX.
