Live: Lamborghini Estoque

Lamborghini officially took the wraps off its Estoque four-door sedan on Thursday at the Paris Motor Show, and we now have live images to accompany our high-resolution images and video. Introduced as a concept, the vehicle is likely to see production some time next year. The new Lambo is a four-door sedan, much in the same vein as the upcoming Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide. Like those aforementioned cars has a heavy emphasis on performance while still being able to carry four in luxurious style.

As previously reported, the new sedan — which debuted as a pre-production prototype — will be called the Estoque, keeping in line with Lamborghini’s bull-fighting naming style. Estoque is a special sword used by bullfighters.

Unlike Lamborghini’s current offerings, the Estoque is slated to use a front-engine layout. However, Lamborghini’s signature all-wheel drive will be a part of the sedan’s package.

Lamborghini’s press conference for the Estoque was void of any details — although a background video clearly showed the Estoque was targeting those who desired the performance of a sports car but needed the added room of a family car — but the sedan’s press kit did shed a little light on possible powertrain offerings. Although Lamborghini’s current range of engines were believed to be off the table, the Italian automaker is still considering equipping the Estoque with the same V10 found in the Gallardo LP 560-4. However, the V10-powered car would likely be the model ranges top-offerings, going head-to-head with the Panamera Turbo. For the ‘volume’ model, Lamborghini will likely go with a twin-turbo V8 derived from the Gallardo’s V10.

Lamborghini is even considering greener versions of the Estoque, with hybrid and high-performance diesel models planned.

Lamborghini will lean heavily on parent Audi for the underpinnings of its new model. While the Panamera will do with a steel platform, the Lamborghini sedan will ride on the upcoming Audi A8’s all-aluminum space frame, allowing for a lower curb weight and improved performance and fuel economy numbers.

Lamborghini expects the Estoque to more than double the company’s current sales, with the sedan earmarked for 3,000 annual sales. Through the first six months of the year, Lamborghini sold just over 1,300 units.

No word on pricing but the new model is said to be debuting in near-production form, which means sales could begin as early as 2009.

God it’s gorgeous. Lamborghini is my favorite car company, I’m enthralled with what they do and the passion they put into their vehicles, this is so cool.

What I find interesting is how there haven’t been spy camouflage photos of this car circulating the internet for months on end, it just showed up out of nowhere with those teasers…how does Lamborghini conceal the R & D on this car, while Porsche and Aston Martin have test mules for the Panamera and Rapide caught on film endlessly?

Not sure anyone was specifically looking for something like this, up until recently people thought it was just a re badged gallardo or whatnot. As for my $0.02, it large, and very possibly in charge for the segment. I personally disapprove of all three maker’s spins on this car fignting arena, but this one may prove to reign supreme at any rate.

Guys, this is a concept that may or may not be produced. The reason we haven’t seen any spy shots is because Lamborghini hasn’t begun testing this yet. They brought it to the show to judge audience response of looks and concept, and if it gets a good reception, they may just build it. But we won’t see spy shots until they actually start testing the engine, suspension and chassis.

I like the looks of this car, with the exception of what’s supposed to be the grill. Better not swallow a duck… FOD!

But I certainly wouldn’t buy a car like this. I’d be signing divorce papers if I did.

They’ve had some concepts in the (distant) past that haven’t happened. One was even a helicopter. What I’m just saying, though, is that, as a concept, they haven’t begun testing yet, so that’s why we haven’t seen spy shots.

And stop yelling. Gosh.

Correct me if I;m wrong, but Lambo doesn’t have an F430 competitor, which I am a huge fan of. This car is good for Lambo in that all of their cars are WAY out there in terms of design and performance. With respect to the design of the FXX and such, Ferrari has more ‘practicals’ offerings in their lineup (albiet ballsy as hell). Lambo is doing the same.

In all, I like it. It’ll be a good addition to the Aston, ‘Panama’, F430, Maserrati segment.

Overall I love this car. One criticism for me is the front brake ducts. They look overdone in most of Lambo’s models. If I came into a huge bunch of cash, I’d still go for the Gallardo.

How did it not get spotted!?! Lets see… It’s chassis is from the A8 and thats a 4 door, so it quite simply could have been concealed beneath that shell. 2ndly, it could have been wearing a murcie shell, nice and painted and looking like a standard car, that spotters would have thought it was just some guy taking his car for a spin round the track. Same with the A8.
The only final option… Lamborghini hasn’t done any testing on it and is just trying to sell it on its looks… Worked for the Audi R8!

For those that are too lazy to see the three super sedans side by side, i found a site with pictures of all three back to back to back. I must say the lambo looks a lot better “live” than in the official pics. However, I’m not a big fan of the huge LP style airdam though.
