Italian supercar maker Lamborghini showcased the new Gallardo Superleggera coupe at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. Thanks to increased power (an additional 10 hp) and a 220-pound reduction in weight (154 pounds for the U.S. model), the new range-topping Superleggera is faster and more agile than the regular model.
The Superleggera needs only 3.8 seconds to go from 0 to 62 mph — 0.2 seconds less than the basic Gallardo. The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera comes with robotized mechanical e-gear as standard; a sports package including shock absorbers; and special suede-covered steering wheel.
The car’s engine is the latest version of Lamborghini’s well-known 4,961 cc V10. 530 hp is achieved in 8,000 rpm.
Lamborghini engineers decreased the Lamborghini Gallardo’s already low weight using advanced materials. The engine hood is made of visible carbon fiber and plastic, a type of material that guarantees lightness and also shows off the magnificent V10.
The rear diffuser and underbody covering, the rearview mirrors, door panels and the central tunnel’s covering are also made of carbon fiber. Further reductions in weight were achieved by replacing certain glass surfaces with clear plastic. For the interior, monocoque carbon fiber sports seats covered in Alcantara are offered.

Fantastic!
Is the spoiler a delete option, then you could save even more weight and the top speed would benefit too. I’ll take mine in race car flat white please with blue alcantara. Ask the butler to call Ferrari and find out what they’ll give me for my CS please Naomi.

I think what they did is delete the mechanical spoiler that is on the normal Gallardo, and replaced it with a much lighter racing style spoiler.

And now, choosing between whether or not I would choose this over a Ferrari F430 is now REALLY EASY instead of just easy. This is clearly a move to show that Lambo can make a product equal to, if not better than the F430, which has been toted as more sporting than the base Gallardo.

why is the american one fater? is it cause u guys get more spec? or is is cause the we europeans get less safety? kinda bugs me that they dont explain the differences.

The best looking Lambo to date just got better. No ifs ands or buts about it. What bugs me is that you don’t see Lamboghinis racing as much as Ferraris. You’d think they’d be all over each other everywhere in the world not just Europe.
Oh well, who care? Still one of the best looking cars in the world bar none.

Already low weight? The Gallardo was always a porker to begin with. At 3,350 lbs., I would hardly call it a lightweight. This new model gets the weight down to where it should be. I’m glad to see them focusing on weight reduction and not just adding more and more power to an overweight vehicle.

More than likely safety features. We demand a lot of **** in our cars to make them legal in the states.

for a car with a nice, big V10, I wouldn’t say that 3,350 lbs makes it a porker. especially since it’s road-legal and has all the comforts of a normal road car too. if you want a car with a V10 that isn’t a “porker”, you’d get a car that’d be more comfortable to be run over with than actually ride in.
with all that said and done, this thing looks brilliant. I used to not like gallardos too much, but they’ve really started to grow on me. and man do they sound good.

This Lambo does not need a rear spoiler, it looks nice w/o it. I’ll wait off till the roadster before I think about buying this. Nice improvements though.

brcart3r– The spoiler is not for aesthetic purposes. So whether or not it looks nice with out it, it is quite functional. As further proof of this, remember that the standard Gallardo has a spoiler that extends at high speeds for downforce.

BAMF, I know it improves the downforce, however not that much. I read that the Veyron’s spoiler applies only about 220 pounds of force at top speed. I think when you have this smooth body like the Gallardo, and u slap a spoiler on it, it takes something away from its overall shape.

220 pounds at 200+ mph though… how many times will u get a car to 200 in ur life time? At like 70-100 mph it maybe applies 20 lbs.

brcart3r…u talked about buying the car…which i thought was a joke…but come on seriously…dont buy a lambo and get the entire car community pissed cuz u get out run by golf carts…u dont buy lambo’s to pull trailers, because they are safer than a honda accord, or have better speakers than the sl…YOU BUY A CAR TO DRIVE IT….
the spoiler looks cool, sets the model apart, and you might want it…220 is ideal driving conditions…how bout hill and wind and all the other factors that we know go into driving…like coolness

Since most production cars produce lift at speeds higher than about 75mph, any sort of down force at those speeds would be a great benefit. Not sure I really like the “Fast and the Furious” design of this wing and I wonder if they couldnt have gotten about the same effects with a decently designed defuser under the car inorder to keep the lines. Still love these cars, I got passed by one the other day here in CT.
