Lamborghini may not be the greenest automaker on the planet, but the Italian automaker has vowed to clean up its act by 2015. In a plan outlined late last week, Lamborghini has committed to reducing its factory emissions by 30 percent by the end of next year, with vehicle emissions slated to be reduced by 35 percent by 2015.
In order to curtail factory CO2 emissions, Lamborghini is currently equipping its Sant’Agata Bolognese factory with a photovoltaic system. All 17,000 square meters of solar panels will be affixed to the plant’s roof by the end of 2009, netting 1,582 MWh of energy per year. According to Lamborghini, the new system will reduce factory CO2 emissions by 20 percent.

To further increase the factory’s efficiency, Lamborghini is also working to better insulate the facility’s roof. Improvements will also be made to the plant’s lighting, heating and cooling systems by 2010, resulting in a further 10 percent reduction in CO2 emissions.

Lamborghini has also vowed to reduce its vehicle CO2 emissions by 35 percent by 2015. In order to achieve that goal, Lamborghini will reduce vehicle weight, improve its current engines (including the use of biofuels), reduce overall friction, employ start-stop technology and even launch its first hybrid system.
