This car looks ugly right now (even the license plates are a mess), but like any other Lambo, it will obviously be an awesome looking piece of art. That’s how mules look like, in fact it’s a pretty one, for a mule. One of the reasons is that they might not want to reveal too much to Ferrari.

As for the comparison between Vettes and Lambos, I’ll say this: I have the latest Vette and this afternoon there was a Diablo behind me at the stop light. I was admiring it through my mirrors, but when the light tuned green the guy probably got enraged by the sound of my exhaust, so he tried to race me. Well I kept driving normally while he was trying to pressure everyone by tailgating them. What I’m trying to say here is that it wouldn’t have happened like that ten years ago. The guy knew very well that he had forked big bucks into a car that can’t beat mine (or not by much). So here’s how it goes for me: like most people here I have still have this insane love affair with the Lambo, but there’s less and less of a rational reason for that.

As for the Vettes having no back spoiler, that’s wrong. The small black protuberance at the edge of the trunk is their spoiler.

So by this wing being to flashy you mean their attempt to make it more discreet? Are you saying that if they’re going to put a wing on for perfomance they should use the GT one and stop trying to be cute? If that’s what you’re saying then I can see where you’re coming from.

carnut4ever: The only thing with a retractable wing is that this isn’t a new model. It’s just an upgrade to an existing model that doesn’t have a retractable wing and that they’re trying to make LIGHTER. Didn’t they get rid of the retractable one on the Gallardo to make it ligher? Also, this car is street legal so they can’t strip it down as much as the race versions or tune it as high…that could have something to do with why the wing is different LeMans one, or maybe it’s an attempt to make that car look better.

the Lambo will most likely handle better in the rain because it has awd, not because it has a wing…just because it creates more downforce at high speeds doesnt mean it will have better traction in the rain, if this was true then why not outfit all cars with wings? seems like it would be cheap alternitive to traction control and complex awd systems. and can somebody please explain to me why we are comparing this half million dollar lambo to the blue devil (which I remind you, is sitll not out), a vehicle that will be a fifth of the price? the blue devil arguement is like comparing a Mercedes S class to a Mazda 6, who cares that the more expensive car is much better….it should be.

PrimeGTP– No, because what you said was “the wing isn’t in proportion to the car,” which, aerodynamically, my bet would be that it is, since it was designed by Lamborghini aerodynamics experts (WHICH YOU ARE NOT). And since aerodynamics is a top priority for a Supperleggera model (more so than appearance), the wing should be there, in exactly the form that it is in.

So you didn’t say it should have no wing, you said it should have a smaller wing, because of the way it LOOKS. But like I said, the Supperleggera isn’t about looks, its about speed. Its about aerodynamics. Its about handling. Its about ultimate performance. Something you obviously value less than aesthetics.

Lamborghini should have gone for a rectractable wing similar to the Veyron and Carrera GT. That wing looks tacked on and out of character with the straight edges of the car. Superleggera wings are ugly. If Lambo really need a wing, it should be the simple yet effective LeMans GT wing used by the Murcielago race car.

I’m with LamborghiniZ and BAMF. This is a track day car…. Lambo isnt replacing the normal murcielago. This is a limited production version for millionaires who want to go play at a ractrack on a sunday, then drive it home. If you dont like the wing, buy the normal LP640…. Ferrari did the exact same thing with it’s 360 (and soon F430). They built the Challenge Stradale. Lost weight, magnesuim wheels, and a carbon fibre interior. And even more potent is the Porsche 911 GT3. The wing isnt exactly pretty….but it’s extremely functional. So enjoy your blue devil with its 600HP, i’m sure you’ll have fun on a drag strip. And on the way home, if it rains, i bet u’ll rethink your spoiler comments….

lotusfire and BAMF are right on track with this one, those of you disagreeing, take a 5 minute rest break, then come back refreshed and with a clear head and try and tackle the logic behind this concept once again, it’s pretty simple; the Lamborghini engineers are not making a mistake here with the wing, it’s there for a reason, as BAMF says, go and tell them that the wing is unnecessary, you really don’t have any idea what you’re talking about, as they’re the ones creating world class supercars, not you.

The reason why you need to add a wing to the top of a car is to counter act the air that goes under the car. I didnt say that the wing doesnt do anything, I said that there are ways to improve downforce w/o adding a huge wing on the top. Decrease the amount of air that goes under the car, and you can add a lip to the back of the lambo. They could choose to reshape the front lip, improve the undercarriage, add some wedge shapes over the fenders, and that enormous wing could come off. I know just how well that wing will work for it, but if Lambo really wanted to go all out with this car, then the pics wont come close to the actual release vehicle. Opinions cannot be expressed around here w/o someone feeling as if they need to prove something.

brcart3r: Less down force is better for top speed so being able to do 275 doesn’t mean anything in this case. For the Veyron to go 251 mph you have to lock away the spoiler.

However, the downforce inproves HANDLING. Remember when the Stig coudn’t stay on the track in a Koeinsegg because it didn’t have a spoiler…guess what, they told Koenisegg who in turn put a spoiler on, then Mr. Stig promtly went out and made a track record.

BAMF, look at the SSC Aero Ultimate, 1100 hp, 2750 lbs, NASA tested to possibly do 275 mph. Now look at the SMALL spoiler on it. Having a HUGE spoiler on the back is one way to make it stick to the ground, and there are other ways to keep it planted. If you were an enthusiast you would have realized this, and comparing a F1 car to a street car is rediculous. Not every person is going to take their Superleggera around a turn at 140 to catch up with Scott Speed, unless they want to see thier Lambo in a ditch.

This is awesome, the Murcielago LP640 is the BEST, that’s my favorite car right there, and shedding weight while adding a bit more power will only aid it, better cornering, and the acceleration of course will improve, though it’s already mind blowing. To all of you saying you’d take a Corvette over this, you’re full of shit, I won’t say you’re “idiots”, but I will say that it’s easy enough to make such a bold, patriotic claim here on an internet board, but if it really came down to it, you ALLLLL know you’d take a Lambo over a Corvette, if only because you could then resell the Lambo and buy multiple Corvette’s with the money, but who would do that? Any normal car enthusiast would choose the Lambo, keep it, and love it. I don’t truly believe that people here would choose a Vette over an LP640, the Z06 might be a better every day driver, a better ‘commuter’ if you will, but anyone with a soul knows what they’d REALLY choose.

I said that about the Gallardo Super. and got bashed; watch what you say. Wings on Lambos ruin the body lines. Everyone is now gonna say “but its functional, it keeps the ass on the ground.” A rear wing isnt the only way to keep a car planted. Sure, you can say the wing is a little big, but Im sure it has a legit purpose considering this beast is going to come in at a least 150 pounds lighter and have about 10-20 for horspower. Also keep in mind this is early testing. No the cars doors are not going to be two-tone, idiots, its just a test car, the doors appear to be unpainted carbon fiber.

^ Well, yeah…it’s testing. That’s like saying that you don’t like the two tone paint job because it looks hastily done. Who knows, when the real thing comes out maybe the wing won’t be as big…maybe it will.

As for creating aerodynamic designs that look good (I think the wing looks fine but thaty isn’t the point), the reason why say–an enzo–doesn’t need a big spoiler is because of it’s hood. Those hood scoops or dips are for sticking the car to the ground, same with the F50, altough that did have a spoiler. This obviously doesn’t have big hood dips…maybe they’ll find another way, maybe they won’t. Also, sure Lambo has lots of technology but this isn’t a brand new car, it’s an upraded version of a car they weren’t prepared to need a huge spoiler on. Maybe they could’ve hid it away like the Veyron otherwise.

Because I’m an american man with not much money, i have to say i’d take a corvette over the Lambo. but seriously, if a Lambo pulled up next to a Corvette, which would you drool over more? Obviously the Lambo, just because its a Lambo. I do agree that the wing needs to go, or get smaller. This is going to be one heck of a car with the higher output and the lower weight. I still like the Gallardo better because of its agility and smaller proportions. the murcielago is just to big for me.
