Recalls are rare for Lamborghini – not necessarily because of the Italian brand’s quality, but because of its low volume. Today, the automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration agreed to recall 428 2007 and 2008 Murcielagos to repair a welds that hold the fuel pump support in the fuel tank.

The NHTSA recall says that the fuel pump support could detach, causing a fuel leak – and, where there is a fuel leak, there’s always a potential for a fire.

Lamborghini dealers have been instructed to remove and replace the fuel tank with a new unit. Notices to owners will be sent out soon and dealers say they’ll begin work on the unusual recall next month.
