Lamborghini sells 3,000th Murciélago

12/24/2007, 10:03 AM

By Drew Johnson

Lamborghini has reached a new milestone as the Italian automaker has sold its 3,000th Murciélago since the car’s introduction in 2002. The Lamborghini Diablo — the car the Murciélago replaced — took about twice as long to achieve the same sales numbers.

The updated LP640 Murciélago arrived in 2006, with a new 6.5L V12 capable of launching the car from 0-60 in just 3.4 seconds.

The 3,000th car is headed to the U.S. and includes a few special features. The Telesto Grey colored car features a custom interior package, consisting of a black base with orange stitching on the seats, instrument panel, center console and the floor carpets.

Lamborghini recently announced its plans to boost annual production to 3,000 units, a 500 unit increase over current levels.

When I was a young lad, I fell in love with the Countach. I thought it was the baddest car I’d ever seen, and I kinda still feel that way. Funny though, I probably still couldn’t afford a 1987 Countach.

Yeah that’s crazy that the Murcie has been out since 02. I can’t believe it’s been that long.

…I wish I would’ve aged this well over the last 6 years.

6 years and only 3000 units worldwide? I guess I’m lucky to know 3 owners.

Merry Christmas fools!

Love that Lambo….agreed with SS4Life – hard to believe something conceived and executed in the late 90’s (to bow in 2002) looks this amazing in 2008.

It’s going to be a classic…

I can’t wait for the ZR1 to go nose-to-nose with this and Ferraris and beat them or at least come close to doing so.

yeah DeansterTJ, Lambo did a great job designing this and for being out for 6 years, its design is still fresh and current looking. Oh it’ll be a classic, but I can’t think of really any Lambo’s that aren’t going to be classics.

The Diablo had a pretty long production life as well and I still think that’s a beautiful car.

Also I don’t know if it’s just me but does the rear end of the Reventon look similiar to the tail lights of the Countach?
