LamborghiniZ, actually I was referring to a specific dealer in a certain country that can get any customized Ferrari you want, fast, real fast. Basically they just place an order through an authorized dealer under one name, thus the special privileges they get. The owner of the dealership has a customized F430 with japanese style body kits. Looks bizarre but hey if you have the money and want to be real different…

All Lambo needs is to increase production. The buyers are there waiting, as evidenced by the preorder lists. They don’t have to drop the price any, people will pay it.

If they build a car, someone will buy it. Lambo has nothing to worry about.

I used to work with a guy at a grocery store back when I was in high school who’s dad was loaded and was trying to buy a brand new Ferrari. Unfortunately they told him he had to wait to get one, or buy a used one then they’d sell one to him. So what did he do? He out-bid Mike Illidge who owns Little Ceasers Pizza, The Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red-wings for a 644k+ Silver Mclaren SLR. Only two of these were coming to Mercedes Dealers here in Michigan. About a month ago I went over to his house and his dad finally was able to buy a Red F430. It took him only three years to get his hands on one…

SwerveEarly: You see, what you’re not considering is that everyone that wants a Ferrari has money. The same money you just mentioned is crucial. When you have 1,500 cars available and 10,000 customers all willing to put down HUGE sums of money, there has to be some sort of rhyme or reason as to who gets first, who gets second, etc. As such, a list is formed. And those that are trusted by the company, aka repeat buyers, will get first dibs. For Kobe Bryant, sure he can get one, but you and I aren’t Kobe Bryant, and don’t have that type of status to help get us that new Ferrari. But yeah, I suppose you’re right if you have unlimited cash. If you’re willing to put down $2 Million on a 599 and I’m sure they’ll sell it to you.

Dont believe that hype they sold Automobile Mag. You can get any car you want. You just need money or connects.
Do you really think that if Koby Bryant wanted his “1st” ferrari they would turn him away, or even tell him to wait more then 2 hrs for his car. Your high.
Even a nobody with unlimited cash can do the same at a cost. Its money, they arent going to say no we cant help you. Their salesman/brokers, the scum of the earth believe me the wait list is a figment of your bank accounts imagination.

come on man, i was just trying to be at least a little comical about the overpaid bastards…but yes, you have a valid point about why they are paid so much. but then again, maybe instead of paying the athletes so much the money would be able to go toward building new stadiums instead of having the taxpayers paying for something that they may not even want (i.e. philidelphia phillies and eagles). but anyway, SHIT! i don’t know what i was thinking about the atom, for some reason i had it pegged at $35 grand…touche’ lamboZ. well then since it costs that much, how about a lotus exige s? they retail for about $60 US…and they have a roof!

hcbob3: Athletes are overpaid, I agree, but the reason they are isn’t because they deserve to be based on shooting a basketball, but because of the money they bring in through ticket sales, advertisements, etc. They bring that money in and are paid for it accordingly. That’s why Dirk Nowitzki is paid more than, say, Marquis Daniels. Also, good pick on that Ariel Atom, but the price for one is closer to around $60,000. Interestingly enough, on my college campus I continuously see one driving about, not sure who has one here, but I’d like to find out.

Ted Bell: That is incorrect. There is a multiple year long waiting list for a new 599. There is no way in hell anyone can get me, in what would be the case of a first time Ferrari buyer, a new 599 THROUGH a real Ferrari dealership tomorrow. That’s not accurate whatsoever. Look man, my information is as accurate as it gets. It comes from Matteo Sardi, the Public relations manager for Ferrari North America. It’s in the December 2007 issue of Automobile magazine, and just so I can revel in proving you wrong, here are the quotes:

“We’re still quoting a two-year average waiting list for North America. I’m afraid there are no ways around it. There’s not a lot that can be done. For the past fourteen years, we have steadily increased the number of cars we import to North America. It’s generally five percent more each year. If you’re a new customer and you want to become of the Ferrari family, try to buy a pre-owned car. That’s the best way to go. Ferrari North America always encourages its dealers and service managers to foster the relationship with owners of pre-owned vehicles, as they could become potential clients”.

There are SO many more potential buyers out there for a new Ferrari than there are new vehicles at authorized dealers that unless you have already gotten inside that “ferrari family” you can’t just jump in and buy one.

The magazine quotes an Anonymous Ferrari salesperson who states:

“There are far too many buyers and not enough cars, it’s that simple. Our A-plus guys (who have bought multiple cars from us) get cars at sticker price, and they get the cars first. If you walk in off the street, the wait is two to four years if you don’t want to pay over sticker. If you’ve never talked to the dealer before and you want to buy a 599GTB for sticker, it isn’t going to happen. The car is just too hot. IF you’re willing to throw down about $30,000 over list price, you might be able to have the car in about six months. Some dealers will even charge up to $120,000 over sticker. The only Ferrari that’s in stock and that can easily be had for list price is the 612 Scaglietti.”

There, my point is sufficiently proven.

lambos and ferraris are all overpriced. similar to the athletes you see on television being overpaid. i don’t give a shit if a guy can run to a basketball hoop and dunk a ball, i sure as hell wouldn’t pay him $4+ million/year to do it! same goes for the exotics…granted some are worthy of the price tag and limited numbers (i.e. bugatti veyron, ferrari enzo, lambo reventon, etc.) but for a company like ferrari and lamborgini to price just about every car they sell in the six digit range is just asinine. some modestly priced cars would be great to see running around on the streets. i don’t know why i’m bitching about price anyway…if i could afford any car at all, i would buy the one that was the most fun to me. something that was fast and agile, say an aerial atom at only about $35,000?

i thought the purpose of these cars is to go fast and look like they had a group of 8 year olds as design consultants, oh and they break down alot. If they are just built to be exotic then why can for deliver a gt and Chevy the z06 and the future ZR-1 for so cheap. i know a Ferrari is a ferrari and a lamnbo a lambo. but how can others do it and they can’t why 500,000 dollars not 150,000 to 200,000. why does stitching on the seats cost 500 dollars

Veda: That’s very true. That autosalon.com link posted above is one of them. But the thing is, when you’re dropping this kind of money on a car, a lot of people like to go through an authorized dealer, to get the full experience. That is to say, truly making your car one of a kind, color, interior, options, etc, and not having to pick from something already designed at an import dealer. Of course the trade off is the aforementioned wait and hassle.

What’s especially interesting about how these dealers work is how first time buyers are very limited. If you’re a first time Ferrari buyer, it is basically impossible to get a new one, save the 612. I read about it in one of the car mags last month, if you’re a first timer and aren’t willing to shell out a million for a 599 or F430, you basically HAVE to go used first, then you can maybe get on a 2 year wait list for a new F430, THEN in 2 years you can get your new Ferrari. But first you must go used, then have that one for a while, then get on the endless wait list.

Even your local Lambo dealer will get you your chariot if you want to shell extra, that is not a brainer. Those guys probably charge you the middleman markup to do your bidding.
2 years ago one could not get Ducati bike in NYC during Christmas bonuses: every trader needed one. Few years back it was the same with Ferraris. Rich mans shit goes in cycles.
