2009 Lancia Delta

03/05/2008, 6:13 AM

By Drew Johnson

Lancia has unveiled its all-new Delta at the 78th Geneva Motor Show. The new Lancia shares its underpinnings with the Fiat Bravo and its styling is based on the Lancia Delta HPE concept that debuted at the 2006 Paris Motor Show.

The new Lancia is slated to hit European dealerships this summer and will be available with three engine options at launch: a 120 horsepower or 150 horsepower 1.4L turbo gas unit and a 120 horsepower 1.6L diesel. All three engines will be mated to a six-speed transmission, with customers being able to choose from a manual, automatic or manumatic.

Later in the Lancia’s life cycle, three more engine options are expected to emerge. In the coming years, buyers will also be able to select from a 2.0L diesel producing 165 horsepower, a 1.9L diesel making 190 horsepower or an all-new 1.8L turbo gas unit good for 200 horsepower.

Overall, the Lancia’s styling definitely falls into the ‘unique’ category. Up front, the Lancia’s fascia sports a bold grille and headlights flanked by LEDs. In profile, the Lancia has an upward-sloping belt line which transitions into a Nissan Murano-esque rear end.

It’s like the kid of a Peugeot and a Prius who learned how to dress well.

Not bad!

Eugh… Who wants a Lancia Delta when it’s nothing like the oldschool Delta… Modern cars really do not inspire me most of the time… Here’s a tip – go for an oldschool Delta – it will set you back a fair bit, and possibly break down a lot, but you can get the HF Integrale and enjoy it.

Oh and my fave Lancia has to be the 037 Rally car… just awesome.

Syrax: Still set you back about £7.5k + for one, but worth it… Still, for a few more £ks you can have an E30 M3 Evo… :D

It’s interesting for LLN to post some European stuff.

It’s not bad looking, but what can I say? A whole lot of front overhang, I have a feeling the different roof color will not make it into production which imo is pretty cool, and sounds pretty damn expensive for such a small, low powered car.

Cool, but almost looks like pure van, the old (nowadays that’s a sport design) Lancia Delta design is gone and it’s not good thing from certain POV. Heart judging just wants to see in mass production that concept of Lancia Delta “Martini Racing” from 2006 that has 4 doors, Mazda RX-8 style, that just looked great and I think would have honored the Delta name! On the other hand I understand Lancia (actually FIAT) because dunno even if Lancia it’s a marque that has profits on its own, so to build something too much inclined to sport just to revive a name from the past and that won’t sell enough to make profits may not be a wise idea, given Lancia current conditions, so probably this family car look it’s the way to go these days. I just hope the quality and tech specs are good enough to compete with the opposition and gain a slice from the market! Let’s wait and see what the top version will deliver and the the rally version too, if there is some plan to make it to the WRC.

Lancia really should redesign their tail lights on every model. They look completely out of place.

Simply analyzing the design, this vehicle is gorgeous. It’s svelte, slick, and attractive. It’s a better looking Murano, if you will. I dig it
