While Lancia unveiled three badge-engineered Chryslers at last March's Geneva Motor Show, the Italian brand has now reneged on plans for its smallest - and potentially most controversial - model.

All three were badge-engineered Chrysler models that were developed to fill gaping holes in Lancia's lineup: The Flavia was a rebadged 200 and was shown as both a four-door sedan and a convertible, the Thema was a rebadged 300C and the Grand Voyager needs no explanation since it shares its name with the North American Dodge.

The three cars looked production-ready, but Fiat-owned Lancia made it a point to call the Flavia a concept.

While the last two will see the light of day in the near future, rumor has it that Lancia has cancelled the Flavia on account that it wouldn't be profitable enough. The 200 is an evolution of the Chrysler Sebring, a model that was never been popular among European consumers, and putting a Lancia badge on it would not change anything, critics argued.

Flavia is a storied nameplate in Lancia's history and the plans to reuse it have only been delayed.

The next-generation of the Chrysler 200 will come out in 2013 and spawn a Lancia-badged version that will instead be developed and penned in Italy in order to better appeal to European consumers.

On one hand, the delay ensures that the Flavia will fit in with the rest of Lancia's lineup and gives the car a better-than-evens odd at being profitable. On the other hand, it means that Lancia will have to wait a little longer to offer a mid-size sedan, something they have not had since they phased out the Lybra and that they desperately need if they want to be a serious contender on the European market.
