It’s not hard to imagine what a five-door version of Land Rover’s LRX concept would look like, but a couple of illustrations might make your future vehicle buying decision even easier. The LRX five-door is expected as a 2011 Range Rover model (not Land Rover), and is slated to arrive about six months after the three-door version.
Part of the allure of the LRX concept was its sleek shape, and Land Rover designers are said to be working hard to make sure the five-door version doesn’t lose anything in translation.
Land Rover says the LRX will be the smallest, lightest and most efficient vehicle the company has ever produced. It was designed at the firm’s Gaydon facility and will be produced in Halewood. The production LRX will be largely based on the Land Rover LR2, although powertrains are expected to be unique.
Although the production LRX will be branded under the Range Rover nameplate, it will actually share a platform with the LR2. That means the production LRX will have a front-wheel drive bias, but expect a four-wheel drive system worthy of the Range Rover badge.
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director said the production version will be “true to the concept and have many recognizable Range Rover design cues.” These include the signature clamshell bonnet, the floating roof and the solid wheel-at-each-corner stance.”
The three-door version of the LRX is slated to hit the market in 2011, but the five-door version will likely hit the market about six months after the initial launch.
The concept Land Rover LRX features ERAD, or Integrated Electric Rear Axle Drive, which Land Rover says saves mechanical and electrical energy. Once explained, the system is essentially a gas-electric hybrid system similar to the hybrids on the road today. Considering the integration of the technology into the concept, a hybrid powertrain is also likely to be part of the LRX production equation.
Land Rover is targeting 70,000 LRX sales annually at launch.

It’s a nice looking vehicle, but I don’t care about it, either. That’s probably because I’m a poor @$$ loser and can’t afford it.

Saw the concept in person and I have to say…that crease in the beltline is no good.
Heck, putting door handles on this thing is gonna ruin the sleekness.

It looks sleek but I think that style is burned already, IMO this looks cheap compared to the classic Range Rover.

Can some one on this planet point to me any car from Land Rover that is NOT 5 door? They all are wagons. I think it is way to radical to be Rover. It is missing “proper” form follows function paradigm.
