You know carl, you're not right when you said that there's no american good car, there is, but it's still undiscovered.

Corvette (Does accelerate, but it has a personality that sucks, the original one had what it need)
Solstice (C'mon, maybe if you live in Transformers world you like this Zippo mobile...)
Sky (Just for 20ers and still not a good car)
Crossfire (ROFL...)

Are you guys off your f***ing tits?

Land Rovers are easily going to spank any American SUV off-road, end of.

So they made some unreliable, albeit un-fatal, cars... 20,000 isn't THAT bad.

20,000 recalls on Chrysler's cop cars?
Merc Recalling 103,000 M Class SUVs??
GM recalling 300,000 Chevy HHRs??
VW recalling 410,000 passats?!
Porsche was at least reasonable for a similar misaligned fuel line with 5,965 recalled but that was only from the start of the 2008 model year built through to Jan 18 2008, so put it into context!

The more you put into a car, the more things can go wrong. Hence, more luxury automobiles with reliability problems than economy cars. By the time 'luxury' features trickle down to the less expensive variants, the manufacture should have had time to work all the kinks out.
Still, that doesn't explain how they missaligned about 20,000 driveshafts without noticing since 4WD has been around for decades.

Land Rovers are only as good as the dealer that services them. If the dealer in your area sucks, then walk away.

Just a reminder to Range Rover bashers. This car was designed by BMW, and built by what was technically a Ford plant with Ford quality control measures.

Some would argue that both BMW and Ford knew well in the design or build process that Land Rover would be sold off, and that, maybe some unscrupulous decisions were made by some to cut corners.

Easy to criticize and go into more money than brain cliché but I have been off-road many times, in larges mixed brand convoy and Land Rover as a rule always managed to maintain momentum and take a beating better than the competition. To be fair Jeep did, too, (all new Jeeps need a lift kit for serious off road duty). However, straight off the showroom floor, in stock form, few cars beat a Land Rover product in term of price/off-road performance combination.

BTW I do NOT work for Land Rover or Tata.

wtf TomF?? i'm on my second Range Rover (and no nothing went wrong with the first one, it was a lease) and plan to always have one no matter what other cars i may own. no vehicle i'v had has recieved the number of complements and "wows" as the full-szie range with its smooth ride and luxury amenities. whats the competition? a freakin GL? at least the Range is it's own pedigree and not a bloated version of a baby-SUV that preceeded it.

howsmydriving, you nailed it. Brits don't have cuisine, they have only food :-) And that's a quote from a British author.

Back to the cars, there was a saying in Britain: How do you improve a factory Land Rover? Just tighten up the screws...

Land Rovers are status bombs for people with more money than brains. They are some of the worst-assembled vehicles from a major manufacturer on the face of the Earth.

In 2003 my wife and I were checking out Jeep Grand Cherekee, Toyotas, and Land Rovers.

While the Land Rovers definitely could do more in 4 wheel drive than I would ever be able to keep up with, the issue for us was quality control on the way they were built.

We ended up buying a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. They ruined the looks the next version of it, making it back to the very ugly square looking vehicle. As for maintenance, I'm too used to Toyotas now and the Jeep's maintenance costs are significantly higher than even four wheel drive Toyotas.
