While the Land Rovers definitely could do more in 4 wheel drive than I would ever be able to keep up with, the issue for us was quality control on the way they were built. We ended up buying a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. They ruined the looks the next version of it, making it back to the very ugly square looking vehicle. As for maintenance, I'm too used to Toyotas now and the Jeep's maintenance costs are significantly higher than even four wheel drive Toyotas. In 2003 my wife and I were checking out Jeep Grand Cherekee, Toyotas, and Land Rovers.
