Land Rover to rename Freelander?

02/21/2006, 4:07 PM

Land Rover is likely to rename its Freelander SUV when it unveils the next-generation model this summer, according to AutoWeek. “It probably won’t be called the Freelander,” said Richard Beattie, executive vice president of marketing. No indication of the new name was given, but one must wonder if an alpha-numeric name is in store, considering the company renamed Discovery to LR3 with the last update of that vehicle. Also, parent company Ford started transitioning the names of its Lincoln vehicles to alphabetic combinations in January.
