Larger hybrids taking longer to sell

03/22/2006, 8:48 AM

The smaller Toyota Prius and Honda Civic gas-electric hybrids remain hits that are in short supply. But the luxury Lexus RX 400h SUV and Honda Accord sedan hybrids have been taking longer to sell than their conventional counterparts, reports USA Today. Ford and Toyota have even added some modest incentives to their hybrid SUVs — a signal that sales haven’t completely met expectations. Analysts say the price tags on hybrids may simply be too high over their gasoline counterparts. “The customer will only pay so much” extra for a hybrid, says Tom Libby of the Power Information Network.

People from Orange County don’t give a sh_t about the price of gas. If they pretend they do; they’ll buy a cheap hybrid to be photographed in by their
publicist … but it’s really the nanny’s car. S-Class will not be a hybrid.
