Larry Jutte, senior vice president at Honda of America Manufacturing Inc., has announced he will be retiring from the automaker after a 24 year career. Jutte will use the time to focus on his “health, family, community and other interests”.

Jutte, 53, took his current position with Honda in 2001. In that role Jutte helped oversee three Ohio plants, as well as all of Honda’s North American purchasing. Jutte was also tasked with leading Honda’s “green factory” initiatives.

“After much reflection and deep consideration, I have made the difficult decision to move on to the next phase of my life,” he said in a statement.

Jutte’s biggest accomplishments came in 1996 when he helped launch the Honda Civic and the Acura CL – the latter the Japanese luxury car to be built in the United States, according to Automotive News. Most recently, Jutte helped Honda shift its North American production towards more fuel efficient vehicles.
