Chrysler LLC president and vice chairman Tom LaSorda said that the struggling automaker met its goals for employee reductions in November and that he doesn’t expect any additional jobs to go on the chopping block in the month of December. Chrysler cut its global workforce by about 5,000 workers between October and the end of November.
“We’re not expecting layoffs in December,” LaSorda told employees at Chrysler’s Jeep production facility in Toledo, Ohio, late yesterday.

“We had a very successful take rate from the programs. The take rates were above our expectations.”

Consolidation
The Detroit Free Press reports that five of the automaker’s project teams – Jeep s, trucks, car and minivan, “Project D” and SRT – were being consolidated down to three teams.

Project D, considered the most important future development project, is the program to replace the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus, which have been met with lackluster sales since their introductions. Rumors indicate that Chrysler might attempt to form a partnership with another automaker to complete Project D.
