LLN consists of:

20% rabid import humpers
10% equally-moronic foreign bashers
70% moderate posters who take shit from the import humpers because they are actually fair

Yes on the stats and the odds, Kaizen, no on the "implications."

Of course any company that mass manufactures will have a few defective components. All of us realize that.

Which is why your "implicates GM" comment is a bit overdoing it. There are some "domestic-fanboys" here, just like there are "import-humpers." In total both groups are maybe 10 to 15% of the posters. The other 85% try to be reasonably fair in their assessments, maybe admitting a preference while still being fair. Those are the bulk of posters in this thread, plus I believe everyone is sick of these frivolous lawsuit ässwipes and the fact that our crappy courts give them the time of day.

I'm not sure if people realize this but Toyota, GM...whoever...sells A LOT of cars. Forget whatever lawsuit claims this woman has made for now. Let us say 10...or even 50 people who have a Corolla/Matrix/Vibe sue Toyota/GM/NUMMI for faulty seatbelts or some other similar defect. It would support this woman's claim and make it seem she is telling the truth. Nevertheless, Toyota/GM combined sells over 400K iterations of the models a year. No matter how much you check for quality, there are ALWAYS going to be hidden defects in a small amount of those cars.

However, I will say that I'm surprised that the majority of this forum is actually calm to consider all the facts. Maybe because it implicates Gm along with Toyota, and not just Toyota.

CA3 - I agree, I'm in Toyota's corner and want them to win. I also think the alleged "allowed defect" is BS.

Still, since GM and Ford are always getting beaten up by bullshìt lawsuits, I'm glad to see it happen to Toyota now too.

Next up, 3 soccer-moms in their new Accords will break their nails buckling up, and Honda will get sued. It'll also be bull, but the joy of frivolous lawsuits must be shared. 'Tis the season...

By the article I'm ready, someone did prove it. Granted that's one out of many. But this is still early stages, and I feel if this is true, plenty more will pop up. Either way this will come out in the wash one way or another. I can't side with either the complantent or defender. If this is true, that plant is in deep.

This lady is a nut job and her lawyer is a typical blood sucking shark. Her accusations of defects are completely inconsistent with the reported quality levels of the vehicles produced by the plant. The Corolla and Matrix consistently generate high quality ratings in JD Powers, Consumer Reports, Strategic Vision, etc. If what she was accusing was true, there would be systematic quality problems reported by owners, and its just not the case.

I drive one of those jobs from NUMMI and actually have not had problem in 15 months (one nail in the tire). Of course after this post my brakes will freeze and seatbelt will bust during short stop. The end is near: I will test the strength of the windshield with my skull. Did anyone see any complaints about windshields?
I do believe that a lot of QA folks are deranged, but I don't know if Mrs. Cameron is. Let's hope that her lawyer is better trained then GM's. System will decide who is insane or guilty of evil doing (do I sound like George W? it's not even SNL).
Mr. Gurinder Singh maybe an ace racer behind wheel of the faulty Toyota, but traveling through "Indian" territory in state of NJ I see a lot of non-native Indians who would benefit from driving a donkey vs. car. Great majority of them drive Corolla. The worst part of that experience that drivers smell like WWII german submariners after month in the sea and give garden state adverse publicity.

REBUTTAL FOR CHARLENE BLAKE:

The real causes of the Toyota specific issue are still unknown, and there has been a tremendous amount of speculation about it over the years.
I disagree with Charlene Blake's narrow focussed assessment of the sludge problem.
She blames Toyota exclusively, where in fact the issue is a complex one with any number of possibilities.
Her frequent appearances on the net are characterized by generalities and politicized rhetoric which appear to be thinly veiled attempts to raise alarm by innuendo and inference.
When pressed for facts and verification, she craftily avoids these challenges, and when she does respond, it's always with more alarmist rhetoric.
The absence of factual and verifiable evidence in any of her remarks is conspicuous; it certainly doesn't point to credibility.
While I hesitate to use the term 'lies' in describing much of the rhetoric she liberally dispenses, I must say it seems she does take some pretty wild liberties with the truth!!

It's funny to see that the $5M lawsuit is aimed specifically at Toyota. Funny because I remember clearly how 1115 claimed the Toyota's off this assemblyline were superior to their mechanically identical Pontiac twins because Toyota supposedly did an extra quality inspection, whereas Pontiac said "fück that inspection crap" - of course he only claimed it and did not back it up. Anyway - goes to show you how good Toyota's quality inspections are.

Broken trucks, broken motors, tranny problems fuel pipe leaks, charred bodies. Ohhhhh what a feelin' ! ! ! !

It’s funny to see that the $5M lawsuit is aimed specifically at Toyota. Funny because I remember clearly how 1115 claimed the Toyota’s off this assemblyline were superior to their mechanically identical Pontiac twins because Toyota supposedly did an extra quality inspection, whereas Pontiac said “fück that inspection crap” – of course he only claimed it and did not back it up. Anyway – goes to show you how good Toyota’s quality inspections are.

@CTS, you just pointed out why big government is bad. Imagine that guy dictating healthcare!

Its just an allegation, no proof. Toyota/GM know that they have no interest in letting defects roll of the line because it would cost them 100x more to fix it later either in a re-call or lawsuit. This is just frivolous lawsuit.

Er... should probably clarify the statement. Not related at all to the lawsuit, but to owners of imports who are blindly loyal to the brand just because of a stupid misperception that domestic quality sucks.

Thirty years ago, were pro-domestic buyers as arrogant and naive as the import-humpers (Charlene, tripleonefive, and planet_drive) of today? If they were, then I say that we're getting what we deserve.

Hooray for Katy Cameron! We, the thousands of Toyota owners online who are seeking a proper resolution in the Toyota engine oil sludge fiasco, encourage other honest Toyota employees to speak up!

Having endured harassment for speaking out about the Toyota sludge problem since late 2000, I understand what Katy has experienced. There are plenty of vicious online attacks on those who wish to provide information and connect the stakeholders in cases of major Toyota problems. Why?

We believe it is because Toyota is keenly interested in protecting its name and reputation; the customers are a secondary thought. We, the affected Toyota owners, believe that Toyota will not acknowledge its vehicle defects properly, honestly.

We want to send a message that we will not be silenced. We want others to benefit from our experiences; we want the safe, reliable vehicles promised to us. We want Toyota to stop blaming the vehicle owners for inherent, major, safety-related problems.

Thank you, Katy! Encourage your Toyota associates to do the same! Cover up? Deception? Fraud? Many Toyota owners say so! Google "Toyota Sludge Petition" to learn more.
