Leak: 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS revealed

07/13/2007, 10:32 AM

By Nick

The first official images of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS have leaked online, ahead of its scheduled debut. Up until now, we’ve only seen spy photos of the new range-topper.

The photos have appeared on several online discussion forums, after being scanned from a dealer brochure sent out recently by GM. As expected, the retro wagon features a 2.0 liter turbocharged Ecotec engine.

While the brochure doesn’t give a power rating, previous reports have indicated it will deliver 260 horsepower — identical to the Pontiac Solstice GXP.

The SS edition features a sportier interior with heavily bolstered seats, race-tuned suspension, a five-speed manual, and a leather wrapped steering wheel.

Production is expected start in December of 2007, which will give General Motors the flexibility in calling this either a 2008 model, or possibly even a 2009.

Nice. I’m sure the power will be more than enough to kill the PT Turbo. Now they just need to get rid of that damned antenna.

Looks more like a range top than a range topper.

At least thet’re trying something beyond sitckers and plastic cladding, so I’ll give them credit for that.

No.
Don’t call anything without a V8 an SS
might as well be an s2000 for all i like it.
maybe if it had the Colorado i5 turbocharged and 2+2+2 seating, it would be worth taking a look at, but it will NEVER be a true SS!

I guarantee this will be faster, quicker, and better handling than SS cars of the 70s. Why does it not deserve this trim level? SS stands for “Super Sport” not “RWD V8 Muscle Car.”

I as a Ford guy always thought SS stood for Super ****ty. haha jk. Nice car I guess. You won’t see many kids buy this though, unless all the people that love the XB so much fall in love with this thing.

NOS2006, Do you think it will out run the 70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 that had a quarter mile time of 13.19 or the 1971 corvette SS 427 that did a quarter mile of 12.32. But they had much bigger motors so if you were to give the HHR a 454 (if it would even fit) it would spank a STOCK muscle car not a Aftermarket muscle car or a newer one from 1978-now. One other thing the muscle cars look a hell of alot better than the HHR even if they are rusted. i say the rust makes them have character.

Like I said in the Hyundai Nav post… Hyundai adds a Nav and everybody is so bouncy and happy for Hyundai.. GM drops a supercharged 260 HP engine in the HHR and everyone acts like they got cut-off by one on their way home.

A PERFORMANCE WAGON!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL WILL WE GET NEXT? ANYONE WANT A SUPERCHARGED SKIP?

THE ONLY GOOD PERFORMANCE ESTATES ARE THE MERC AND BMW OFFERINGS FROM THE HOUSES OF AMG AND THE M TUNING DIVISION. THESE CARS ARE PROPERLY QUICK, NOT SOME CRAPPY AMERICAN EFFORT WHICH IS REALLY JUST A BIG, CHEAP FLABBY PIECE OF ****.

It’ll most likely have a ‘el cheapo’ plastic interior a la the Cobalt.

And only a 5-speed manual? Geez, GM’s a day late and a dollar short AGAIN. Most of the sporty cars out there are moving… or have moved to offering a 6-speed.

Plus the steering will probably be numb and the suspension will not be able to handle the weight and power that is demanded of it.

On the other hand, with 260 hp, it should be able to accelerate (in a straight line) relatively well.
