The powerful V10 engine slated to appear in the forthcoming Lexus LF-A sports car could find its way into next-generation GS sedan, a new report suggests. Presumedly dubbed the GS-F, the car would join the IS-F in the automaker’s “F” high-performance series.
Intended to rival the BMW M5, Mercedes E 63 AMG, Audi RS6, the GS-F would arrive a year after the all-new 2011 GS is introduced. The 2012 model has not yet been approved, but Motor Trend says Toyota is seriously considering it.
Insiders anticipate a similar design language to the IS-F when it comes to enlarged intakes and other visual enhancements. An eight-speed transmission is a near certainty.

The F-series Lexus is trying to start is a joke. Lexus seems to be synonymous with [unnecessary] technology and [overtly expensive] luxury. They are good cars, but why do you think people still buy BMWs? Because they beat Lexus’s Toyota ass in the fun to drive category, which is most important to anyone who truly loves cars.

The only alternative to the M3/M5 I know are the AMGs from Benz, and perhaps the new CTS-V. 500-600 horses sounds VERY promising on top of an already good car.

If it does come, it better pack much more than 500 hp. Audi has 525-550, and I know BMW and Mercedes will up the ante when their new generation cars come soon. It will be interesting to see what the car will be like, provided again, if they make it.

The world’s great automobile manufacturers are constantly seeing who can can have the biggest, the most powerful engine. This is all very well, but a big engined car like that is only really useful for when you want to brag about it. For true speed, light and simple is by far the way forward. My Lotus Exige may only have 190 hp, but it is faster or as fast as the best of these supersaloons. On the other hand, I understand this sort of thing, because it is useful to have vast amounts of power at one’s disposal, whilst retaining exemplary comfort. For larking around in an exec, an M5 is perfect. But for true, hardcore speed, light and simple is best i.e Lotus.

Yes the M5 is good and all but working for BMW you realize that they’re a computerized POS. Every day an M5 is towed into the dealership for millions of issues. Theres too many computers and to be honest I dont really dig it. The best M5 was the E39 M5, its the most beautiful car BMW has ever made. Now BMW should be creaming their pants cause Lexus has one thing BMW doesnt have, reliabiltity.

Commodore, have you read papers or internet articles this year? Toyota is pursuing #1 sales figures in the world beating down on GM. Neither BMW, Benz or any other Krauts auto companies came close to those sales numbers. BTW, Honda, Nissan and Hyundai are following Toyota footsteps. Do you think krauts did NOT want to be dominant car companie(s) or nation? I have news for you: they are beaten in Europe (home turf) and not even on the charts in the biggest market US!
Lexus(Toyota really) achieved quite enormous goal: they are registering on par with BMW & Benz in luxury market surveys. Fairly impressive for a company which did not have luxury brand 20 years ago. And where do you think those customers come from? From BMW and Benz former territory.

autonut: true luxury market surveys wouldn’t even include toyota. That company has as much chance of making a BMW equivalent as Estelle Getty does of leading the NBA in rebounding.
Those customers come from those willing to pay $10K for a “L” on the camry/alteeza/land cruiser

Why does everyone here hate Toyota/ Lexus? The idea of a V10 sedan excites nobody? I find that a bit odd. Toyota is capable of building a very fine luxury car for the price. That’s what a Lexus is. BMW are more of a ‘driver-oriented’ car. They are different brands. The make different types of cars. STOP COMPARING THE TWO.
I have driven BMW’s and they are fun, yes.
I drive a Lexus daily and love it.
Get into a lexus. Look at the panel gaps, Interior fit, finish and materials. Look at the headlights, tail lights. Notice how the doors open and close. Notice the attention to detail. Drive it and appreciate the luxury and refinement. This is what a Lexus is about. They are clearly capable of building a fine luxury car. So instead of talking **** for days… how about we welcome the idea that after 18 years, they are finally becoming really serious about performance.

You drive a Lexus… you look sane.
Since when did IS-F become a joke? It hasn’t even been road tested yet, but jackoffs on the interweb think it’s somehow a joke. How about this? Your opinion is a joke. You don’t even own an M3, C63, RS4 or anything. You drive a Cavalier. STFU.

You Lexus haters really need to give it a rest. Lexus outsells BMW worldwide. Merc has more reported problems and defects in the first 12 months than any other luxury car maker on the planet. And Audi’s are just lame looking cars with an interior only my grandfather could appreciate. Lexus for being the youngest automaker of the bunch, has repeatedly proven to be a serious competitor in the luxury market. So much that within less than 20 years, they have taken enough customers from Merc, and BMW to be the number 1 selling luxury brand worldwide. As for performance, they have always been behind the Germans, but it seems as though you guys are getting nervous about that changing so you decide to bash the car before it even goes into production…
Now I don’t know who called the idea of a V10 stupid, but did anyone say that about the M5’s V10, or the Bugatti’s V16. NO. Their are great engines. I think the BMW, Merc, and Audi, have to find a way to offer more in their cars to remain the big sellers in the high performance luxury markets once Lexus adds the addition of more F models. If you idiots haven’t realized it yet, people love performance cars, but will rather buy cars that have quality and a price tag to match their performance. I can only imagine an increase in Lexus sales once they break the performance gap.
My father has went from a 97′ LS400 to a 03′ 745i and back to an LS 460. He said the switch to BMW was a big expensive mistake. I myself have an 06 GS430 and my wife an 05 E500. We both agree that the GS is a far more pleasurable car to drive and only use the Merc to keep from racking up the mileage on the Lexus since its a lease. We both have plans of trading in the Merc for a new Lexus in Nov when our lease is up. I’m writing from experience.
