Just so everyone here realizes...this isn't Toyota trying hard to finally get customers, it's them expanding their customer base. Lexus is the best selling luxury car in North America, far ahead of any other brand. Toyota isn't at their last straws to get sales...they already have them.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a dumb package and what not, but lets not misinterpret it.

LP there is a golf course a couple hours up the cost from me called Pebble Beach. Maybe you haven't heard of it but it is one of the most famous courses in the world along with being one of the most expensive. Pebble Beach is known for being a hotspot for wealthy businessmen and their trophy wives along with anyone else willing to drop the ridiculous 400+ dollars just to play the course (I won't even say how much a stay at the lodge costs). They are also known for holding a yearly famous round of the Concours d'Elegance (http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net/), a high class car show. Lexus's partnership with Pebble Beach is not so much a business venture as it is a way to establish an even loftier reputation by sticking the one thing on a luxury car that can make it seem even more luxurious, the name and symbol of something that represents the combined wealth of most Silicon Valley executives.

For $4000+ over a regular ES you get special wheels, a cheesy steering wheel and palm tree floormats? Are they kidding? Even Cadillac and Lincoln cut this crap out years ago. It just shores up Lexus's repuation as being for old farts, with its average buyer age in the mid-60's.

Toyota is grasping at straws trying to steal customers away from Buick and Cadillac. It's actually kind of funny when you think about it.
