While there’s still no sign of the production version of the Lexus LF-A supercar, the Japanese luxury automaker today revealed a roadster variant of the popular concept car. Like its coupe counterpart, the LF-A Roadster is powered by a high-revving 5.0-liter V10 engine producing 500 horsepower.
Compared to the latest coupe concept — introduced a year ago — the LF-A Roadster features a number of design modifications that are probably indicative of both the production coupe and roadster. These include: reshaped headlights, a new front fascia, modified side skirts and air intakes, and a somewhat reshaped trunk.
The V10 engine is capable of propelling the car to test-track speeds greater than 200 mph. It is mounted in front of the passenger compartment but behind the front-axle centerline in what the LF-A’s engineers refer to as a “front-mid” configuration. The Mercedes SLR features a similar layout.
Like Lexus’ other high-performance vehicles, the LF-A Roadster features no shortage of “F” performance badging.

Typical Toyota styling. Steal from everyone. Absolutely unoriginal if you ask me. GTR in the front, 360 Modena intakes on the sides and is that a Veyron wing?!! Toyota makes great cars, too bad most are too ugly to consider.

Given the car does have some references to other car manufactures, and so what, a lot of designers take cues from existing cars. As for the from of the GTR, looks nothing like the GTR. and the same goes for the 360. I think you need to get stronger lenses for your glasses and if you don’t own a pair, get you eyes checked.
Either way I’ll have my in gun metal grey.

mbgg099, well both are sports cars, as is GTR, so i think many sports cars will have a front that looks similar. There cars need to have a low, smooth front, so if you’ll look carefully you may see other cars it it too. But i personally see that FT-HS.

I can’t decide on this. It’s either the cleanest sports car design to come out of Japan since the NSX, or it’s like they threw darts at pictures of every other supercar on the planet and picked some aspect to impose on this. Oh well, even if they do build it, like every other Lexus you know it will be overpriced.

Three things.
1) I want specs and equipment list of this car. There is a claim of 7min24sec at Nurburgring http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?viewThread=y&gID=3&fID=0&tID=10073 and I want to know what this car has to pull that off.
2) What does the engine look like. I’m curious.
3) Does this thing have a trunk? Again I’m curious.

Wow, I must say that is the best looking concept to come out of Toyota or Lexus in a long time, perhaps ever.
Sure, I can see a bit of Lambo, Veyron, Ferrari and even a tiny bit of the MKIV Supra in it. But really, thats not a bad thing IMO.
Now, give it the performance to back up it’s look, and it’s a winner, no matter what the die hard anti-Toyota fanatics say.

This automobile translated beautifully into a convertible (many do not). Guaranteed first-run sell out with the well-heeled crowd, and front liner at the upper-end dining, and hotel establishments. Hats off to Toyota for coming so far over the decades.

I do have to agree that the Japanese makers have been promoting their high dollar sports cars a bit hard lately. Some might say excessively.
Personally, I’m more put off by the lack of useful information than the endless “work-in-progress” photos and bit articles.

They’re doing exactly what US brands are doing. Recently, Japan has lacked sport car credibility, so they promote their sports cars and concepts. GM/Ford/Chrysler all lack green credibility, so they promote hybrids and fuel cells or concepts. The main difference, mainly with GM, is that they have started to try to convince the American public that they are selling the technology right now (ie Volt, fuel cell Equinox).

Kaizen,
Perhaps, but it feels more like hype than real product. Unbelievable times being posted, insane theoreticals, usually tacky styling (yes I’ll still rag about the GT-R’s ugly ass body until the day they fix it.) being tweaked ever so slightly, and so on. Right now the LF-A is the best looking of the the new lot.
The crazy components layout, no doubt a formula inspired suspension, not unlike the SLR, a detuned racing engine, and the most wicked fighter/racing vehicle body I have yet seen outside the Vector W8 are all major pluses. Seeing it run I think I can root for this car. Makes me think if GM is rushing back to the drawing board over the C7 right now.
The LF-A, however, leaves me cold on one major point: Price.
What about a new Supra? TOYOTA was floating rumors and even very credible drawings and renders and I think a few pictures of the assumed prototype not a whole year ago. What ever happened to that. I really don’t care about some $150K+ car when one) I wouldn’t dare drive it on the same roads as the lunatics and morons around here and two) I couldn’t sanely afford to spend that much on one car.
I want my Supra!!
Otherwise, Kudos TOYOTA. A car That can beat ‘em and does it without “cheating”… as far as I can tell.

A Lexus supercar, can it get any better? Benchmark quality/reliability and supercar performance, a rare combination. Its good to see Lexus take on the big boys from Europe Although I would still take an AMG benze over this. This car will definately set a new standard in this segment.
