Lexus has announced that it will show two concepts at this month’s Tokyo Motor Show: the already previewed LF-A and the LF-Xh SUV. The LF-Xh is “based on the Lexus design philosophy of L-finesse” and could give an indication of what the next-generation RX will look like.
As with the current Lexus lineup, the h in LF-Xh indicates that the SUV uses a version of the automaker’s Lexus Hybrid Drive — consisting of a gasoline V6 and a high-output electric motor. Lexus claims the setup offers “superior environmental and power performance” and “seeks to achieve outstanding driving performance, quiet operation, high fuel efficiency and low emissions.” Lexus failed to release any further details so check back for more after the LF-Xh’s official media release later this month.

In the profile view, the proportions just seem wrong. There is a very odd relationship between the c-pillar and the rear wheelwell.

If form to follow function, then function of this concept to drive into a wall. I hope it will come with periscope, because there is no visibility out of this thing. I guess as a result of globalization Japanese are much taller now, short folks have no chance of seeing anything out of it.

Snoozer…a RX350 with a squashed roof and a Camry/new Highlander front end. Interior is funky, but seen on every concept car since 1990.

Huge visibility problems. Huge blind spots. Looks like it would be dark and scary to ride in, not to mention unsafe in urban traffic.

Thank God there is one Jap concept this year besides the Suzukis that does not look like a nerd project that went terribly wrong. Even though it does look like a combination of the Ford Edge and Mazda CX-7 (which are the same thing), it is still fortunately not as ugly as all the other Jap concepts. I might be willing to call it good-looking. Like a 7 on the 1-10 scale

Based on what Lexus has done in the past with their concepts (LF-Sh was the LS), you’ll see 90% of this car in showrooms late next year as the 2009 RX.

Its amazing how Lexus has such style when producing concepts but when it comes time for production their cars and trucks are boring. Having said that, the front of this truck should be redesigned. The interior will never see production so why bother. Looking at Lexus’s line up is like watching grass grow literally.
