1c3d0g, there are a good number of people who actually think the other way around given Lexus' famous properties. For the same price as a BMW or MB, the cars (at least the Japanese versions) have far more technology features integrated. I can see why they would think Lexus is the smart choice. You should try owning a few, it may change the way you think about them.

Lexus should stick to its mantra of producing whisper quiet luxury cars. Forget about BMWs and sporting models.

You talk so much shit. Merc and BMW are in a different league compared to Lexus let alone cadillac.

Patrick, I am sure you will give a crap when you rear-end someone because the breaks of your LS460 weren't able to bring the car to compete stop quickly or worse still run into a Semi.
If I recollect correctly, the word "dependable" hasn't lost it's meaning.

1c3d0g, the answer to your question is they're at the very top. They're about to be the #1 car manufacturer in the world, making the highest quality vehicles. I don't give a SHIT what the braking distances ONE magazine got on ONE test car, however i do care that toyota makes the most reliable and dependable vehicles on the road, something extremely important to 95% of the car buying public. But tell me , where is Ford and GM now? Oh that's right, getting shit on by Toyota.

The point of this car is not drag racing, it is to cart wealthy people around in EXTREME luxurious comfort, with a smooth and powerful engine, and it does all of that perfectly, no its not the fastest but that's not the point. Just wait for the LS 460h, with that combo of a hybrid/V8 it'll make about 500 horsepower, maybe that will satisfy all of you.

"Cadillac can't come up with an S-class fighter cause there isn't a cheap-ass Chevrolet model to base it on yet. Plus they don't have the cachet that the Germans have, just the rep as a fogeymobile.

You're an ignorant moron. Cadillac doesn't have any models based on Chevrolets, except for the Escalade which is based on the Tahoe/Suburban, and the XLR, which is based on the Corvette. Neither of which are cheap. The CTS & SRX are the first of its kind for the platform, and same for the STS and DTS (i.e. no cheap Chevrolets shared with them).

Fogeymobile? The DTS is, I agree. But that's it. One lap on the Nurburgring in a CTS-V, and you will poop your pants.

This is relatively minor, but just one of many issues developing against Toyota right now. Toyota is reaching too far, growing too fast and getting too big. It’s a Japanese version of General Motors circa early seventies all over again.

Wait, isn't Car and Driver one of the very same magazine that Jim Morgan and his ilk accuse of Conspiring against domestic manufactuers? Quick someone go outside and make sure the sky is still blue.

The acceleration numbers are not that important with a Vehicle this size as many have already mention- I think what is disturbing is the braking distance.
It is disappointing because it is a safety concern, and I honestly feel it is sub-par. They (Toyota) need to address this promptly: investigate to either validate/rebuff the claims; take immediate action to remedy the situation.

I'm sure it will still sell well. Acceleration or braking disappoints in an American car? Everyone would flee as if it were about to explode. Disappoint on a Lexus? "Oh, but it's a Lexus. They're perfect, and I'm boring."

Cadillac can't come up with an S-class fighter cause there isn't a cheap-ass Chevrolet model to base it on yet. Plus they don't have the cachet that the Germans have, just the rep as a fogeymobile.

I can understand testing conditions explaining the 1/2 second slower than expected 0-60... but those braking numbers are horrible. Pre-production or not, for a sedan in this class to take 209 feet is laughable.

Did they have a pre-production model that may not be 100% comparable to the actual production model? I wonder because I don't see the point in Lexus making all these performance predictions knowing full well that the car would not meet their claims when actually tested by the magazines.
