Lexus ranks fourth with hybrid in endurance race

08/18/2006, 6:20 PM

By admin

The Lexus GS450h hybrid sedan managed to place fourth in its first ever 24-hour endurance race. It did so despite a 300 pound weight disadvantage and an unexpected pit stop for brake work. The car also had to make other stops for the crew to refill the dry ice cooling system for the car’s batteries. Gallery after the jump…

#1 lol. I guess its a slow news day today at LLN. Bunch of crappy news. No new spy pics? Anything?? I hate racing news and car companies cutting jobs news and ****!! LLN, U SUCK ASS!!

COME ON, LLN!!!! If u have nothing, leave it at that. I’d rather have one or two good posts on spy pics or news about new vehicles coming in 2009 than 6 or 10 boring, meaningless news in one day!!

Butt Candy – YOU MORON. It says it placed first, and in the pic’s there is CLEARLY a picture of a 911 GT2 on the starting grid.

My bad – it says places fourth – but there’s still a picture of a GT2, and also Honda S2000’s Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII’s and BMW M3’s.

Maybe I’m missing something but that doesn’t sound like first place… and is anyone else concerned about the “dry ice battery cooling system”…

Ok, where are all the Toyota haters coming to spin this as bad? I don’t care in the car was powered by 2000 hamsters wheels, 4th place on their first attempt is impressive.

Look Dr*Queens I misunderstood, i thought it was a hybrid only race so i was therefore surprised that the Lexus could only manage fourth place as it is probably the fastest Hybrid out there until the Mercedes-Benz S Class is released

Was it fourth in class or fourth overall..?? AND…did it even USE the damn batteries?…we all know Hybrids run mostly gas at high speeds.

I hate the Hybrid Hype. I tested the first two generations of Prius and they are not as green or efficient as everyone thinks. Any PZEV vehicle is cleaner and any TDI is more efficient.

It’s not important who got first through third, duh! It’s only important that the hybrid was in the race. Even if it finished last, or didn’t finish at all, it would still be the big story! You guys know that. TOYOTA FOREVER!

manny – totally different classes of cars – if we include the R10 we’ed have to include power wheelchairs also (it’s only fair).

Soak the glory now cos when the New Mercedes E class comes out with Hybrid Bluetec in 2009 you will get your ass kicked.

If you wondering why?, its because the diesel engine alone is cheaper and more efficient compared to the hybrid system let alone the petrol engine. When you put a hybrid with a diesel in a Mercedes E-class it should be achieving 45-50mpg easy

Forgot to mention that this don’t mean **** as Audi has proven that Diesel is a better short term solution then hybrid by not only winning but dimolitioning the field in Le Man in its first time out so much that the organisers have to change the rules. Hybrid is for losers and is way to late.

Lexus DID NOT do very well. Considering it CAME IN DEAD LAST IN ITS CLASS (ST1, which is 3500cc or larger) and 17th overall (out of 29). It was done on a 3.4km race track. Here is a quote from the article:

“This put the car in 17th position overall and fourth in the ST1 class.”

and

“The car, the Denso Lexus GS450h, is entering in the “Production-1†Class (hybrids and other environmentally considerate vehicles). The entry vehicle is also recognized as a 2006 Super Taikyu Series ST-1 Class (3,501cc or higher) vehicle exceptionally approved by the Super Taikyu Organization (STO).”

Kewl. I wouldn’t mind a diesel hybrid with direct injection *hint hint* to toyota.
Mercedes sorta out of my price range lol. It’s sorta weird to try to save gas money when you’re buying an E class IMO.

GJ lexus! As for the audi diesel comment I can only shake my head was it a v10 or v12? Comparing it to a GS engine lol oranges and apples!!

Crossing fingers for toyota to make a two door 4 seat sport convertible hybrid hehe..

Lexus are crap. Plus that 300lb weight disaadvantage cancels out when you consider the fuel economy improvement over a conventional engine

I don’t think people noticed my post, so I’ll say it again: **LEXUS FINISHED DEAD LAST** IN ITS CLASS (4th place in ST1) and only 17th overall out of 29 cars. So it got beat by every single car with an engine as big as the one it has, in addition to being beat by 14 other cars with SMALLER MOTORS.

08/19, 4:55 PM

posted by:

If the 300 lb disadvantage is the batteries, then shut up about it, because it’s their own damn fault for running a hybrid. And if it’s because they have a more powerful motor, then shut up about it, because that’s what makes it fair.

AND IT FINISHED LAST IN IT’S CLASS. AND 17th of 29 CARS! Stellar performance, eh?

Lexus are the most unimaginative gut-buckets on the road. Lexus are for people that don’t think, won’t think or just can’t think, they simply want a car for utility purposes. Tastless people hoping their bland automobile want cause passersby to turn their heads and say,”Who the hell are those ugly people, and why are they allowed out on the streets in daylight”.

i’m happy, that most people do not understand what Lexus stands for.
but that is OK! they’d keep with VW and Audi or other crap, which do not last any longer than 50.000 miles.
and please, stop polluting our planet with those crappy TDI engines!
