So it basically looks exactly the same, but the rear window is positioned differently....fascinating. What is with that interior? That interior is awful.

Well I probably wouldn't purchase an RX. I would rather an MDX which competes with this. I do like the interior of the RX but I am not crazy about the shifter. It's the usual Lexus high quality interior and i cant wait to see it in person

The smaller SRX has a modern interior when compared to Japanese cars from the mid 90's but I understand that GM has set the bar so low for their cars that people are impressed with anything. It's hard to believe that grown men are impressed by leather on a dash. It's nice and it looks great on the Hyundai Genesis but ultimately it means nothing. Its typical D3 garbage like making a shitty car and putting in a silly feature that gets people to buy like heated cupholder You get the idea
I heard that Lexus is putting out a smaller SUV/CUV and based on the history of the two companies, its logical to say that it will look similar to the #1 RX and be a more reliable luxurious vehicle car than the SRX

NMOFGM you're such a retard. My parents have always boughten Lexus's since 1999 and none of them have given us a single problem. We've had three GM vehicles and they had tons of problems and low resale value. Like I said before, think twice before you post mindless questions.

Elviososa...I agree. And everything that Lexus has shows that they don't need to make any drastic change to the model. If opinions change, the RX will change or Lexus will cancel it. Much like how Lexus will probably phase out the SC when the IS C arrives. But Lexus won't change it to satisfy track enthusiasts or random people typing on the computer...they'll change it based on input from current customers and prospective conquests.

Kaizen...it is the inside people that mess up the big three.....and it's the outside people buying the car. If there are enough opinion about the car from the outside, the car will flash down to the toilet!

You may be on to something Kaizen, because I will admit that the RX does not interest me. Like I said in an earlier post, I could see a nice older couple enjoying this however.

I think most realize it's made some improvements, the problem is that most also find it to be boring. Something about the design of the center stack keeps saying Ford Focus to me, plus the placement of the gear shifter just looks odd. I'm also not a fan of the big hole in the wall look that the navy creates. Sorry, but I still say the new SRX has a much cleaner, more modern and upscale looking interior.

I think its funny to see people who are completely on the outside of the auto industry to argue about how much the RX sucks. If you were actually in the industry, you would realize that RX, even though it is 6 years into its life cycle, still is the best selling luxury SUV. So evidently, people like the RX. Lexus would not have drastically changed the RX to satisfy people on this board, people who would never buy a RX or the other cars like the SRX X3 or ML that it competes with. Therefore, it is very similar to the current RX. Lexus tends to listen to their customers a little closer. So in the end, you are arguing about something you really have no interest in.

I also though it was extremely amusing that jayjc08 said: "Toyota and their subsidaries only make decisions based on business propositions. But the opposite can be said about GM and Chrysler." What the hell are they supposed to make their decisions off of then? Even if youre building the next great sports car, you don't build it to prove that you can and not care if anyone will buy it. But that's what GM and Chrysler have essentially done. So fault Toyota for being responsible, not mock them. If Lexus sells the RX and realizes that customer dont like it, they will respond and make changes. But until then, criticize something that actually makes sense.

"How does it look?
Like an evolutionary redesign of the original. Without the older version next to it, you’d find yourself saying it’s just an RX. Put the 2010 next to the original, and you’ll get a sense of “How far we’ve come.” (Apologies to Matchbox Twenty) Using what Lexus calls the L-Finesse formula that has permeated the membrane of all things Lexus, the styling has become more angular, and has added a few more character lines throughout. An arrowhead shape from the grille work rearward has helped tie together familiar design cues. The overall arrow-like shape culminates with the rear spoiler, which pulls double duty by lowering the drag coefficient to 0.33, and also hides the rear wiper assembly.

The RX has a new broader stance, which sets the front 2.8-inches wider and the rear an inch wider for an overall increase of 1.6-inches. The overall length has increased by 1.38-inches."

Hey LLN...I think this will be the first time ever that I call your review on the "look" is B.S. Why can't you just say it's FUGLY??? Why are you drawing so many circles that not even come close to the round shape???

I am so disappointed on this review.

Well Actually I think we had this argument last year and i added up the recalls of Toyota Vs GM and Gm had more
Also I could never find anything on the supossed bad transmission in the Camry and the only Tundra issues were on forums never an official site. The NHTSA stopped looking into the Tundras for acceleration bc the claims were bogus
I looked at the interior on edmunds and it looks og high quality and definetely better than anything the General has made or will make in the near future
Sj Nice excuses for the enclave oh its bigger but the other guy said it gets more and blah blah blah
And they dont compete bc like i said in the other thread the SRX is basically the Equinox which is a smaller CUV READ !!!

I have looked this over again and just don't find it appealing. I could see a nice retired couple from Florida driving this but it's just too sleepy for the younger crowd. To me the new SRX looks much more modern and edgy both inside and out. Come to think of it most owners of Toyota/Lexus products I see running around lately are older people. I hate to say it but I think Toyota/Lexus has become the new Buick.

Again sj, the RX and SRX should not be even compared. The SRX is in a totally different league than the Toyota. The RX's competition is the Chevy Equinox, or maybe the Saturn Vue.

The quality and reliability of the Toyota obviously is inferior to those but still

The Enclave gets 1-2mpg worse mileage than the RX but it is far larger. The FWD Enclave is 17/24 vs 18/25 for the FWD RX. The Enclave seats 7, has cargo room behind the 3rd row and has 288hp vs 275 on the RX and it needs regular gas. That alone will wipe out the mileage gains of the Lexus. When you consider the Enclave weighs about 5000lbs its actually more efficient than the 4500lb RX.

"The SRX doesnt compete and cant compete with the RX- ME"

You have not said WHY. Still waiting. The SRX matches the RX in power and is slightly smaller. It looks better, has more features and will likely handle better based on recent performances by other Cadillac models. How do they not compete? Just because LLN didnt mention the SRX doesnt mean the two will not compete. ONly a fool would say otherwise- then again, you know that already. GM mentions the RX as a competitor as have third parties covering the launch of the SRX.

also, the functions you mention for the LExus are controlled in the driver info center on the Enclave. Most GM vehicles have one. You can monitor the trip computer, change settings, check oil usage, tire pressure, etc. This is only something new to people who dont check out vehicles not made by Honda and Acura.

8bmws, you and your man both drive the same vehicles? Do you give each other high fives when you leave in the morning if you drive away in the same vehicle?

That's pretty sweet of you to remove the jealousy from your relationship

I'd be careful about referring to camshaft failures. Seeing as the Tundra's been experiencing a lot of them lately. Not to mention the transmisison issues in the Camry.

The past makes little difference, when at present, Toyota's vehicles are having more problems than GM's are.

multi-information switch located in the right spoke of the steering wheel. Offering several layers of info, it shows cruise information (fuel economy, average speed, distance to empty), Switch mode (adaptive front lighting, Intuitive Parking assist, Snow Mode, and an eco-indicator), and a customization mode that can hold up to 25 personalized functions including door locking, interior lighting, driver seat entry and the like. Does the Enclave or SRX offer this If so let me know also the Enclave gets 16 mpg city / 22 mpg hwy CX AWD so you were incorrect

I guess most of you have not owned a Lexus. After 8 BMWs in a row mixed with a few GM family cars I switched in 1992 - now have had 2 RXs and 2 SCs. The latest SC is 7 years old - I am still waiting for the first repair at 125,000 km. The RX is 6 years old and almost at 170,000 km and has only had normal maintenance, but definitely more than the SC. The cars are utterly reliable and nothing has worn out or not working as designed. I hate to replace them but plan to do so soon - I have never kept cars as long before.

I am Canadian and plan to buy the RX as it is made in Canada. The factory emlpoys many Canadians. Nobody provides quality or service like Lexus - the best retail experience I have ever had. And the residual is great, even when they get old. The styling is important to me as I am a design professional - I don't much like the SC but so many people have admired it that I guess some people do. I liked the first SC much more for styling. But the ownership experience makes it more than worthwhile, and the current one still drives and looks like a new car. I have never owned cars as good as this before.

BMWs are great to drive for the first few years, but not at the distance of these Lexus. In my part of the world BMW capabilities simply cannot be used legally. And I dislike recent BMW styling, particularly the interiors. The Lexus is engineered and built for normal driving, not the myth that we're all at the track racing.

Yes that post was pretty sorry Inline
Wow! 7 more horespower
Where is the proof GM has tricky commercials comparing their 2wd models to the 4wd models of others Untill I see conclusive proof I will have to stay the leader of the catagory
The Enclaves parent company has a history of poor unreliable vehicles and this thing is unproven and more than liekly wont be any different. How abou that Camshaft
The Lexus is #1 int he catagory and Im sure it wont be beat out by a Buick Enclave or a SRX (even if they were competitors)

Sorry 1115,

Try the Buick Enclave. It's much longer, wider, and 1,000lb heavier, with 7 more horsepower, and it'll get the SAME mileage as this RX does. So it's neither more powerful, nor more fuel efficient, despite the fact that it's lighter and smaller, and uses a little less displacement.

There is nothing attractive about this thing. Well, maybe for women. Otherwise, just another four wheels I'd rather not have sharing my roads.

Can Toyota or Honda make anything anyone with taste would WANT? Hmmm, maybe that's part of the reason sales TANKED last month, in some cases worse than the domestics. Good on ya, suckahs.

I love Planet Drive and Homo-Race 13.

Also German vs Japanese never was the argument so nice try with trying to get off the subject at hand
The argument is J2 vs D3 Stick to the script
It doesnt matter how the RX compares to the Germans it blows the Americans out the water and the D3 vehicles dont compare to J2 or German cars like BMW and MB in the areas I always mention
LOL so patriotic yet so unknowledgable ..makes sense

The RX is only a few inches longer than the SRX and it seats 5 JUST LIKE THE SRX.
This is what you said I looked at the thread and you never said anything about when they go on sale. Similar sizes dont make them in the same class and the article makes no mention of the upcoming SRX

The SRX doesnt compete and cant compete with the RX- ME

Two vehicles with similar size and hp from competing luxury nameplates are not competitors just because you said so? I dont think so. Explain yourself or shut up. -YOU

Still no mention of when they come out and you said that the X3 and X5 were both competitors even though the Bimmers are in different catagories

LOL You are a joke I think even MHW makes more sense

"In fairness to Lexus, these were pre-production models so fit and finish might not be up to final spec. As for breakthroughs, I refer to items new to THIS vehicle, not Lexus as a brand, Toyota as a parent company or automobiles in general."

Well that is fine except that Lexus is pretending that this vehicle is breaking new ground with features found on competitors. Lexus tends to talk about its vehicles in a vacuum as if they dont have to compete with other luxury brands. The only notable spec is the mileage. Everything else it offers can be found on an MDX or X3. I almost forgot the Q5 will be competing with this vehicle as well. I like that SUV better inside and out.

tripledumb,

I said the SRX WILL compete with the X3 and RX when it goes on sale. You were the one saying the two vehicles werent competitive in any way. I never said the SRX is on sale right now. When it debuts the RX will be one of its key targets.

"Yea Im sure you are an authority even though you havent seen the car in person yet lol"

I've been in plenty of Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The Highlander has an interior that LOOKS great but is cheap when you get inside. I suspect the RX is the same thing. LExus' have nice interiors but they are not equivalent to German interiors. Lexus interiors still come off as Toyota interiors with softer dash materials and wood trim. Just like Toyota Lexus is obsessed with plastic metallisc trim and it needs to stop. Even the new Mustang has real aluminum inside.

Great reliability and great customer service? Is that something you read in a magazine? Lexus cars are pieces of sh1t yet it's dumbasses like you who continue to folow the belief that they can do know wrong. Get a clue. Lexus and Toyota builds some of the most unreliable, low quality cars on the planet and obviously you would never know that, why? Because the import humping media will continue to make Toyotas out to be the godsend of all automobiles. Yet, if you actually opened you eyes a bit and bought a GM vehicle (something that the media continue to bash) you would find that nobody. NOBODY builds a car to last like GM.

Tell me this POS is going to be on the road after 80 thousand miles. Betcha half the electronics will be blown, the ball joints, transmission, rear end will all be needing or will already have been replaced, and the thing will creek and rattle like a 30 year old box truck.

Meanwhile a comparable GM product will be just broken in and ready for 5 times the mileage before needing service.

Buy American. Buy GM. It is your duty.
