Lexus will price the 2008 IS-F sports car somewhere around $50,000, according to Lexus insiders contacted by Edmunds. A price in this range would make the IS-F only slightly more expensive than the soon-to-be-replaced $48,900 BMW M3.
Lexus might be attempt to undercut the next-generation M3, which rumors have suggested will be considerably more expensive. However, a report in August suggested BMW was eyeing a $53,975 price tag for the next M3, which is a small premium over the old model than originally anticipated.

$50,000? No offence Toyota but isn’t the 2009 Nissan GT-R priced around that mark? I suppose the is-f is competing with the M3/RST/CTS-V so i think that comparison is a bit unfair.

Ugh, the IS-F isnt exactly stunning, more like hideous, ugly, disproportional, gawky, ugly and every other adjective that is a synonym of the word ugly. I would rather have an M3 or a new CTS-V. Plus, knowing Toyota, the IS-F will handle like an ox cart on square wheels, considering the fact that the Supra, IS350 and SC430 all handle like garbage and those are the sporty models. But, other than that, its just a sported up luxo sedan. If it were a real performance car, it’d have a clutch pedal and a six-speed manual box. Not some electro-whiz flappy paddle box. But, again lexus buyers want Techno-whiz, so flappy paddles it gets. Lame “F” badges on the seat sides too… BMW “M” has nothing to worry about here. I’ll be watching future “F” Lexus vehicles, and maybe if they really grow a pair, they’ll put a clutch pedal in the next one.

In addition, it doesn’t even have a manual transmission option as far as I can tell. Certainly if I were in the market for an M3 or S4/RS4, I’d be looking at the Mercedes AMG vehicles before I even considered this car.

Oddglat,
I’m not a hick, not even close. I own an Audi, a Mercedes, a Jeep and a Mazda. I don’t have a biased opinion towards anything. This car is terrible no matter what you say or believe. The engine is mounted on stilts for the perfect dynamic balance of a tall SUV. Toyota cant make a performance car, period. From your other posts you automatically think that this car is great. No matter how terrible the car is, people like it and give excuses for it as to why its so bad.
Same thing happened with the FJ Cruiser. If GM or Ford released something like that, Dearborn and Detroit would be up in riots and burning things down. People would kick and scream and ask why did GM and Ford create such a POS. But since Toyota made the FJ Cruiser, people give excuses for it and say its good.
Back to the IS-F, its a POS and all ricer fanboy opinions(oddglat) are void.
Oh, and guess what, the Plymouth Superbird is not ricer in any way. Yes, it has a ridiculous wing, but it also has a big American engine with big American power and in no way, shape or form is the Plymouth Superbird rice.
You shouldn’t even bring up old American classics as rice, because they aren’t.

Sludge on certain Toyota engines does not apply to every engine they produce. Also, the recent quality problems mention (sludge and others in newer camrys it seems Or otherwise) are mostly associated with the models assembled in the US, not in Japan. We’re talking about Lexuses here (Lexus models are assembled in Japan).
217000 on your buick? Thats it? If you search on Clublexus.com, Theres is a 1992 Lexus SC400 with over 600,000 miles on it. Original engine too. There are also many LS400’s that have passed the 300,000 mile mark.
Toyota 1UZ-FE V8 (DOHC, 4 valves per cyl) > GM 3800 V6 (Pushrod, 2 valves per cyl)
But we’re comparing apples to oranges. I’ll be realistic and compare luxury bran to luxury brand. V8 to V8. Lets have a look at Cadillac, and their beloved aging Northstar 4.6, Shall we?
If GM’s aren’t under-engineered how come they use outdated technology? Certainly, these brilliant GM engineers have produced a state of the art premium luxury sedan….right? Case in point: DTS.
VERYold FWD platform. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_K_platform_(FWD) Go there for a laugh.Surely GM engineering (if it’s so great) would hav came up with something new rather than add a few new suspension bits and braces to a platfrom dating back SEVENTEEN YEARS. Pathetic!
In addition, the Northstar has been around since 1993 (I know it has had some revisions since). I know of a friend with a DTS. It was just at the dealer with $1300 in repairs (electrical and suspension problems). My father is the ex-owner of a STS with the Nothstar. The car drank oil and was in for service several times per month. At one point, the car was in for 2 weeks as the dealer tore down the engine and replaced several components in a desperate attempt to fix the problem.
Guess what? It wasn”t any better. Hows that for GM quality?
Face it. American cas had it in the 1960’s, but they’ve lost it. And ‘it’ will never be back.

Thats great, but how many of those Lexuses have been driven through a flood, driven through the deserts near Las Vegas more than a doezen times, and been stolen. When I retired my Buick, I was putting at least 54 miles on it a day.
Do you realize that the Northstar was the yard stick that all other engines were measured by. Only until recently did V8s from Mercedes and BMW pass it. So the engineers ended up reusing the K platform. It isn’t designed to be a performace sedan. It is a fast and inexpensive luxury cruser. The DTS is going to be replaced by a faster more expensive vehicle that should own the LS 500 (I don’t work for GM so I don’t know). This isn’t the same GM that it was in the 80’s and 90’s. It’s better. They still have work to do, but the growth of Toyota is at its end. Every automaker produces lemmons, GM and Toyota both produce lemmons so get over it.
By the way. I noticed that you had no comment on the Honda transmission in my Saturn. Again, Japanese reliability my ass.

I realise the Northstar was a great engine at its debut, and I enjoy the engine myself. After hearing (and my father experiencing) the running issues/problems, I’m not so sure of its greatness.
We have been told about this “new” direction of GM and Bob Lutz this, Camaro Concept that, but when their new vehicles release (Impala SS, chevy aveo, equinox, G6) it seems to be the same old story with a facelift and a new interior. I hope they do produce better cars am I am pushing for them to do better. I have nothing but good things to say about the new CTS from what I have seen. So good luck GM, you have a LOT of work to do.

YAY!!! Someone on this message board isn’t completely biased against GM vehicles!!! I understand though where some people are coming from with the lack of reliablity. It is hard to move past it, but this isn’t the same GM, so I think its time.
The Impala in general is an improvement (exterior is debatable, but the interior is much improved, do you not agree?) It by no means is class leading, but it is competitive at best.
The Aveo is a great looking vehicle (and much improved) in need of a new power plant.
The G6 and Equinox were released 2 years ago. The Equinox has just received a refreshed interior and the 3.6 (the base engine needs help, oh well). The G6 always had great engines and a clean exterior style. The interior needs the help now.
If this was the old GM we would still be stuck with the original Malibu that was released in 98′. But no. It is on its second platform and its third redesign. Each new one is a vast improvment over the old one. GM has changed and they keep getting better.

And GM is poised to knock Toyota out of businees with their new models. Just you wait folks. We have already run the imports out of Michigan for good and that wave of import hatred is slowly but surely spreading across the country. By 2010 there won’t be an import left on the road that isn’t torched, stripped or trashed. More and more people each day are waking up with the realization that imports suck and need to get the flock out of this country.
Just last night I came home and my neighbor a block over from me was taking a baseball bat to his Honda Odyssey van and his Lexus small sedan (then the fire engines came so I went back into my house but anyways) I spoke with him this morning when I was dropping the kids off at the bus and he said he was sick and tired of his unreliable crap in his damn driveway. Said they were nothing but problems, from blown engines every 10 thousand miles to wheels falling off and steering racks failing. He was like wtf! Why cant my imports be as nice and as well built as your GM’s are?
