Gmnoberoneforever: You are full of shit. Nobody would voluntarily destroy 2 vehicles because they have problems. Anyone with any sense would fix and sell them to buy something that satisfies your needs.

Max: I came off as a bit too much of a GM-hater, but I have reasons and proof to back up my opinions. Glad to see the most recent news on the Camaro and Corvette.

You are banned from mentioning the Uplander name from now to the end of time. Vehicles like the Uplander give GM a bad name. Thank God the plant where they are produced has been shut down.

And GM is poised to knock Toyota out of businees with their new models. Just you wait folks. We have already run the imports out of Michigan for good and that wave of import hatred is slowly but surely spreading across the country. By 2010 there won't be an import left on the road that isn't torched, stripped or trashed. More and more people each day are waking up with the realization that imports suck and need to get the flock out of this country.

Just last night I came home and my neighbor a block over from me was taking a baseball bat to his Honda Odyssey van and his Lexus small sedan (then the fire engines came so I went back into my house but anyways) I spoke with him this morning when I was dropping the kids off at the bus and he said he was sick and tired of his unreliable crap in his damn driveway. Said they were nothing but problems, from blown engines every 10 thousand miles to wheels falling off and steering racks failing. He was like wtf! Why cant my imports be as nice and as well built as your GM's are?

Needless to say, we are going car shopping this weekend for a new Chevrolet Uplander and a new Pontiac Grand Prix. About time he got some real cars.

bun_a_gm:
YAY!!! Someone on this message board isn't completely biased against GM vehicles!!! I understand though where some people are coming from with the lack of reliablity. It is hard to move past it, but this isn't the same GM, so I think its time.

The Impala in general is an improvement (exterior is debatable, but the interior is much improved, do you not agree?) It by no means is class leading, but it is competitive at best.

The Aveo is a great looking vehicle (and much improved) in need of a new power plant.

The G6 and Equinox were released 2 years ago. The Equinox has just received a refreshed interior and the 3.6 (the base engine needs help, oh well). The G6 always had great engines and a clean exterior style. The interior needs the help now.

If this was the old GM we would still be stuck with the original Malibu that was released in 98'. But no. It is on its second platform and its third redesign. Each new one is a vast improvment over the old one. GM has changed and they keep getting better.

Max.... I never said anything about Honda or Japanese reliability. I was talking about Toyota/Lexus.

Also, We cannot compare where you have specifically have driven with your car. Im sure most cars can drive through nevada desert just fine (A Ford Explorer I drove was up to the job). I realise the Northstar was a great engine at its debut, and I enjoy the engine myself. After hearing (and my father experiencing) the running issues/problems, I'm not so sure of its greatness.

We have been told about this "new" direction of GM and Bob Lutz this, Camaro Concept that, but when their new vehicles release (Impala SS, chevy aveo, equinox, G6) it seems to be the same old story with a facelift and a new interior. I hope they do produce better cars am I am pushing for them to do better. I have nothing but good things to say about the new CTS from what I have seen. So good luck GM, you have a LOT of work to do.

Let me get this straight: are all you people complaining about the "ricer" styling on this car actually in favour of a MORE boring Lexus? Okaaaaaay then.

Personally, I like the agressive looks...I just hope it performs like a 4 door sports car a la RX-8, but with more power (a big wish, I know). And I hope to God that the traction control is defeatable so that the people who DON'T wear Depends will be able to enjoy driving it.

PS the Pontiac G6 isn't a bad looking car, but who in their right mind actually cares?

Thats great, but how many of those Lexuses have been driven through a flood, driven through the deserts near Las Vegas more than a doezen times, and been stolen. When I retired my Buick, I was putting at least 54 miles on it a day.

Do you realize that the Northstar was the yard stick that all other engines were measured by. Only until recently did V8s from Mercedes and BMW pass it. So the engineers ended up reusing the K platform. It isn't designed to be a performace sedan. It is a fast and inexpensive luxury cruser. The DTS is going to be replaced by a faster more expensive vehicle that should own the LS 500 (I don't work for GM so I don't know). This isn't the same GM that it was in the 80's and 90's. It's better. They still have work to do, but the growth of Toyota is at its end. Every automaker produces lemmons, GM and Toyota both produce lemmons so get over it.

By the way. I noticed that you had no comment on the Honda transmission in my Saturn. Again, Japanese reliability my ass.

Sludge on certain Toyota engines does not apply to every engine they produce. Also, the recent quality problems mention (sludge and others in newer camrys it seems Or otherwise) are mostly associated with the models assembled in the US, not in Japan. We're talking about Lexuses here (Lexus models are assembled in Japan).

217000 on your buick? Thats it? If you search on Clublexus.com, Theres is a 1992 Lexus SC400 with over 600,000 miles on it. Original engine too. There are also many LS400's that have passed the 300,000 mile mark.

Toyota 1UZ-FE V8 (DOHC, 4 valves per cyl) > GM 3800 V6 (Pushrod, 2 valves per cyl)

But we're comparing apples to oranges. I'll be realistic and compare luxury bran to luxury brand. V8 to V8. Lets have a look at Cadillac, and their beloved aging Northstar 4.6, Shall we?

If GM's aren't under-engineered how come they use outdated technology? Certainly, these brilliant GM engineers have produced a state of the art premium luxury sedan....right? Case in point: DTS.

VERYold FWD platform. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_K_platform_(FWD) Go there for a laugh.Surely GM engineering (if it's so great) would hav came up with something new rather than add a few new suspension bits and braces to a platfrom dating back SEVENTEEN YEARS. Pathetic!

In addition, the Northstar has been around since 1993 (I know it has had some revisions since). I know of a friend with a DTS. It was just at the dealer with $1300 in repairs (electrical and suspension problems). My father is the ex-owner of a STS with the Nothstar. The car drank oil and was in for service several times per month. At one point, the car was in for 2 weeks as the dealer tore down the engine and replaced several components in a desperate attempt to fix the problem.

Guess what? It wasn''t any better. Hows that for GM quality?

Face it. American cas had it in the 1960's, but they've lost it. And 'it' will never be back.

Oddglat,

I'm not a hick, not even close. I own an Audi, a Mercedes, a Jeep and a Mazda. I don't have a biased opinion towards anything. This car is terrible no matter what you say or believe. The engine is mounted on stilts for the perfect dynamic balance of a tall SUV. Toyota cant make a performance car, period. From your other posts you automatically think that this car is great. No matter how terrible the car is, people like it and give excuses for it as to why its so bad.

Same thing happened with the FJ Cruiser. If GM or Ford released something like that, Dearborn and Detroit would be up in riots and burning things down. People would kick and scream and ask why did GM and Ford create such a POS. But since Toyota made the FJ Cruiser, people give excuses for it and say its good.

Back to the IS-F, its a POS and all ricer fanboy opinions(oddglat) are void.

Oh, and guess what, the Plymouth Superbird is not ricer in any way. Yes, it has a ridiculous wing, but it also has a big American engine with big American power and in no way, shape or form is the Plymouth Superbird rice.

You shouldn't even bring up old American classics as rice, because they aren't.

You shouldn’t even bring up old American classics as rice, because they aren’t.

Eion, it's only crazy talk if you rely on CarandDriver and Motortrend for your information. They hate GM so they'll trash talk them all day long when the truth is, they build the best quality, most reliable, most satisfying cars and trucks anywhere in the world. Comparing a Pontiac to a Lexus just proves that Lexus is an overhyped piece of shit when compared to a real car.

I don't see this car stealing many sales from the S4/RS4 or M3. It's not that pretty (in my opinion), while also looking too flashy - those fenders, for example. In addition, it doesn't even have a manual transmission option as far as I can tell. Certainly if I were in the market for an M3 or S4/RS4, I'd be looking at the Mercedes AMG vehicles before I even considered this car.

I don't see how anyone could even compare a Pontiac G6 to a Lexus, let alone a BMW M car or Audi S/RS car. That's just crazy talk.

i think they should have used TRD instead of F. the F logo just looks so incredibly ugly and stupid on the steering wheel and next to the IS lettering. the rest of the car i like.

ps. does anyone actually know what the F stands for?

GMbummer14ever: u want to use your G6 to trash this car, which im sure that it will (funny), can u actually drive? i mean, i dont think someone with your intelligence can pass the driving license test.

It was pieced together with bits of pieces of old ricers and then taped together and glued on with Japanese spit(which i hear is very sticky). Let go of your ricer obsession and look at the car without being biased. Once you look at it, you will realize that this car is a step down from the IS350.

BTW, i also read your other threads and in your pea-sized brain the Japanese do everything better than anyone in the world. We live in the real world, might want to join the rest of us.

ricer image? There is NOTHING ricer about this car apart from what your minuscule inbred brain is thinking.

quit with the racism and go back to you stupid trailer park hick.

American invented the "ricer" image in the 70's, check of this POS called the Plymouth super bird.

I apologise if the younger car buyers CAN only afford a CHEAP reliable automobiles like the honda civic instead of 2nd hand POS like the mulletmobile camero or death trap american fullsize SUV tanks.

bun_a_gm:
under-engineered my ass. Guess what is giving me the most problems in my Saturn Vue... the Honda transmission. The rest of the vehice is fantastic (and I will give props to Honda for a great engine). Like you said, Lexus builds refined luxury automobiles, not sport sedans. Your impression of "quality" must include Toyotas recient coverup of the sludge problem that more than likely will affect this vehicle. So when your engine freezes from the sludge I will fly by you in my 21 year old Buick with the "shit tastic" 3.8 V6 that still runs like new after 217,000 miles.

Simple life: I was in a pontiac torrent last week and I was disgusted. Pontiac is shit. GM is pathetic.

Lets see what their cars offer...

"Cam in block" engines, a shit tastic 3.8 V6 that has been in nearly every GM sedan for 20 years, Ugly, Low-quality interiors. ALL front-wheel drive (Excluding GTO, its a Holden, NOT a pontiac. Need I say more?

Can you Americans not see that GM builds under-engineered, inferior vehicles? It's a mystery to me how they can stay in business.

Lexus builds refined luxury automobiles. The complete opposite of GM. I think the IS-F is a prime competitor for the S4 and upcoming C63AMG. How can anyone say this car is terrible? Unless you own an IS250/350 and really hate it, you cannot dismiss it as terrible. Styling is subjective. Me, I love the fenders, wheels, and those brakes...wow!!! This car impresses, and has the quality and reputation to back it up.

meh... it is what it is... It'll sell. Atleast they didn't stick the "TRD" moniker on it. (worst acronym ever, Toyota) Only item I really like is the stacked dual exhaust tips. That looks real nice. But, other than that, its just a sported up luxo sedan. If it were a real performance car, it'd have a clutch pedal and a six-speed manual box. Not some electro-whiz flappy paddle box. But, again lexus buyers want Techno-whiz, so flappy paddles it gets. Lame "F" badges on the seat sides too... BMW "M" has nothing to worry about here. I'll be watching future "F" Lexus vehicles, and maybe if they really grow a pair, they'll put a clutch pedal in the next one.

Pontiac is the new BMW and the old one is about to be shown the door.

GMnumberone4ever: I like GM vehicles too, but lets be realistic. The Japanese still produce some very good vehicles. Styling is subjective, some people find this Lexus good looking, I personally think its butt ugly. You can't keep comparing the G6 to this, they are just not even close.
Pontiac has potential to be a bargan BMW fighter. Supposedly all their cars are going to be rear-wheel drive in no less than 5 years.

And Gmnumberone4ever, get a life man. GM's cars aren't quite in the ranks of BMW or something like this Lexus. They're improving A LOT, but still have a way to go. A G6 would never beat this thing in a race. G6's are economy cars.

What's a G6? I only read Car and Evo.

Check it out at Pontiac.com and check out the one a few articles down, it's called the GXP. You're gonna see plenty of these things roaming the streets looking to kill posuer shit like BMW's and Audi's. Pontiac is the new BMW and the old one is about to be shown the door.

That swollen hood means the engine is tall, raising the center of gravity. Hmmmm... wonder what that does to the dynamics.

The below is from Car Magazine online and it helps us find a 'spot' for this car.

Lexus is already saying that this is a 'different kind of performance saloon', perhaps trying to avoid the inevitable dynamic comparisons with the Mercedes C55 and the new BMW M3.)

If Lexus actually thinks they'll steal sales from M3 they are freaking nuts. They've just recently grown a set of balls with these new fast cars but M series has had that market in it's corner for years. Don't get me wrong though I think Toyota getting a clue and producing fast cars is a good thing. I'm still in love with Nissan and BMW fast cars though.

THe normal IS has such a nice shape...

This thing looks like it tried to copy a 5 series from the side, has an uncontrolled growth up front, and some really riced out details plastered all over it.

On the plus side, the interior still looks ok.

meanpants555,
"We should think of it as an IS 350 that got stung by a bee."
that must've been what caused the hood to swell.

Oddglat,

I hope you realize that the whole world thinks this car is ugly. Its a terrible car, a hackjob.

It will look like the devil in your rearview mirror

LMAO, and in the rear view mirror it will stay. My G6 will trash it.

Oh wait, if it's on the back of a flatbed because the engine blew up and the transmission blew out, you realy wouldn't see it in your mirror because it will be blocked by the Cab. Never mind. :D

Toyota is nuts if they think this Pontiac G6 wannabe is worth 50 grand. Expect this waste of space to be dropped in about 6 months due to lack of interest. I expect Pontiac and Buick dealers will have no problem selling their models to disappointed Lexass fans.
