Lexus to reveal LX 570 in New York

03/13/2007, 11:31 AM

By admin

Lexus will stage the world debut of the all-new LX 570 luxury utility vehicle at the 2007 New York International Auto Show. “The third-generation LX 570 will reach new heights in performance via a powerful new V8 engine while achieving elevated levels of comfort, style and safety,” the company said in an announcement.

The LX 570 is expected to feature a 5.7-liter V8 similar to the one offered in the new Toyota Tundra pickup. The Tundra powerplant puts out 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. It’s not known if the power ratings or specifications will change in the Lexus application.

The LX 570 will replace the LX 470 and will feature an all-new exterior.

thats 20 hp more than GM’s 6.0
Gm has really got its hands full, and Toyota keeps pouring it on…..
How will Toyota handle #1 if they grab it? They have had thousands of recalls and delayed product launches due to quality concerns. Are they begining to suffer from volume and quality issues?

The 2008 LX470 looks too much like a Toyota. Lexus needs a 100% body lift to change the damn thing. The Tundras engine and tranny will give MB’s G-class some nice competition, or i should say its only.

So will the LX570 still be based on the land cruiser platform, or will it move to a tundra-based platform a la sequoia?

Well said europerspective, but it is SUV’s like Land Rovers that are more often driven by school run mums. At my son’s school, the Toyota RAV4 and Land Rover Discovery are becoming the official school run cars. It is so annoying.
Who the hell wants a luxury 4×4? 4×4’s go off-road, and for that you need something good and sturdy like a Defender. If you want luxury, buy the much better LS limousine.

I’m interested to see how this looks, the last gen was a good model throughout its entire run, even when it was relatively old. Lexus makes gorgeous interiors too so should be sweet

I think Lexus should change the LX to a Tundra/Sequoia-based platform, since the current LX is too similar in content, size and price to the Land Cruiser. They should leave the Land Cruiser as the true Range Rover competitor, and pitch the LX toward the Escalade, GL450 and Navigator crowd.

aston(got your name rite this time), you have a good point, luxury 4×4 is an oxymoron. gm keeps trying it with the hummer line and it drives me nuts, at least i have never seen a luxury wrangler. rock crawling and mud bogging just dont go with leather seats, climate controll and cd players in my happy little world.

I never expect much from Lexus’ SUVs, but it will be interesting to see what it looks like. The rest of the models seem to seperate themselves from dressed up Toyotas, but that’s what I see when I look at their SUVs.

Even with all of their new models coming out, Lexus still has yet to offer a car with any soul at all.
“That’s 20 more hp than GM’s 6.0″ That’s why GM has a 6.2 in the Escalade which has 400hp. That’s 20 more hp than Lexus’s 5.7

I hope it’s still going to have the legendary offroad ability…the Land Cruiser has always ruled the desert. Hope this one isn’t a big fat pooo like the Armada or Tahoe or Expedition or something.

Ain’t the LX based on the Toyota Land Cruiser?

Landcruisers were great as landcruisers…not as a lexus.

Especially with the last model…considering I saw a bunch of Toyota Prado’s being driven around in Kuwait/Iraq/Qutar/UAE. Hard to justify minor changes and leather seats for a huge price difference.

autonutt: That’s a really good idea, I think you’re right about that. If they gave the LX a name change, as the name “LX” has no cache right now with the Escalade/Range Rover crowd, and like you say, redesign it as a luxo, Escalade/Range Rover/Navigator?QX56 competitor, they might have a hit on their hands. Leaving the Land Cruiser to the hard core 4X4 stuff, brilliant!

I would hope so, since it does have 10% more displacement! Anyone can get more power by adding cubes.

Never been a real fan of luxury SUVs myself (other than the FX35, and that’s more of a crossover).
