Lexus’ all-new LFA promises to be one of the hottest supercars you can’t own. In a bid to prevent speculators from buying up the LFA’s limited production run of 500 units, Lexus announced on Monday that it will only be leasing the six-figure super coupe.
Automotive entrepreneurs have been known to vulture sales of limited edition vehicles only to resell them at a much higher price, but that won’t be the case with the Lexus LFA. “If someone buys it the first month and then decides to sell it, that could be damaging for the ownership experience,” Brian Smith, vice president of sales and dealer development for Lexus, told Automotive News. “If it is not controlled and hits the speculation market, all bets are off.”
As such, Lexus will only offer the $375,000 LFA for a two-year lease. Lexus plans to build 500 examples of the LFA over its two year production run. However, Lexus will give customers the chance to buy the LFA off-lease.
Production of the LFA is expected to begin in December 2010. Because Lexus will be providing tools and specially trained technicians to service the LFA – therefore eliminating the need for Lexus stores to purchase unique tools or provide special training – customers will be able to buy the 552 horsepower supercar at any Lexus dealership.
The Lexus LFA will make its U.S. debut at next month’s LA Auto Show.

We are leasing then because we know that 375K is to much for this car.

Like you honestly care, Road_AMS.
You couldn’t afford one anyway.
But it is strange, but then DODGE had the same problems withe ht VIPER when they first rolled that out. A $55K car being sold for $90K+ by Dealers and CHRYSLER not seeing a dime of it. Now the mark up is built in.
TOYOTA has their own learning to do with a car that costs just under $400K. But I think what they are trying to do is gather technical information based on actual usage of the car. This is something most Supercar makers don’t do. They just build a really small number of really fast, really fancy, really expensive cars and don’t keep an eye on them the see how they are holding up.
This way Toyota can at least take a look at the car once every few months to a year to see how it is doing and see what they can do better in the future. Something that can’t happen if the cars are all snapped up by collectors and speculators and never driven.

last time a car offered this kind of exclusivity, technology, and performance it was called a Ferrari Enzo and it started at 675K, so please don’t let your pea sized brain get in the way of facts 0-60 because at 375K this car is a bargain for people who have the money to throw around.
The rotary weaver used to make the carbon fiber body of this car is owned by toyota, of which there are only two in existence in the entire world. toyota initially only planned to sell the lfa to hand selected people, and only those who will drive this car rather than buy and park it in their garage. i don’t care for the lease option, but other supercars have used it too.

A friend of mine near Lake Constance is well connected in F1 circles and thru it is well connected to the major supercar manufacturers. He uses his connections to buy supercars early on for targeted final purchasers mostly in the mid-east and east asia. He usually must hold them in his name for a specified time but they get to the final buyers well before this and he gets a mighty mark-up.
Believe me – most true supercars are bought and not leased. The may just be garage queens and not driven much, but bought they are.

I think it is a great plan. I believe, and DrFull can correct me, that most of Lexus’s are leased anyway. I don’t think Lexus wants to compete with Ferrari and Lambo and they probably can’t. However, lease is a great idea. You lease your car with option to buy and if you want to buy it you buy it. There is no uniform price on cars coming off lease, therefore there is no real worries about value of 400K investment. Even rich don’t like to piss money away.

There has only been a hand full of buyers that put down money to pre order the car nation wide. He said only one person in Florida put down money to pre order the car. And that was a PGA tour player. The LFA is going to a great car. But, it is still a f-ing toyota. And who the **** cars about toyota as a super car. This car, is just a trophy for the exects at toyodaa.

@DrFill Toyota has had a 12 year absence on being able to produce anything entertaining to drive. Honda has only been out of the game since 2005. I think it’s a little too early for a Toyota fan to be picking on Honda.
And even if you want to move down market in the fun category to something a 4 year old would find entertaining to drive. The S2000 only died in 2008 whereas the Celica GTS died in 2005 and between the two I’d take a kick in the mouth over the inappropriately geared Celica GTS.
