Until Toyota buys BMW, Lexus will not compete. The cars are very nice, great quality, capable, and have good ##'s. But, we all know numbers do not tell the story. My dishwasher has great numbers too, and Lexi (?) tend to be very appliance-like. There is nothing like the feeling of a good, solid, German car. It's not for everyone, but some people appreciate that "feeling" and perfect blend of sport and solidity that no other carmakers can seem to replicate. If you want a "perfect appliance" to get you from point A to point B with no fuss, get a Lexus. If you truly understand & enjoy driving, get a BMW.

[...] But I give kudos to Lexus. Left Lane News uploaded a post indicating the manufacturer is working on a convertible version of the IS to match the M3. 400 ponies? Sweet! But while numbers are nice, will the convertible handle like a Bimmer? That’s been the IS’ Big Weakness, for power is not enough. (If it was, several Chevrolet Corvette or high-end Ford Mustangs would dominate comparisons.) No, it’s handling, the feel, etc. that separates Bimmers from the rest of the sport luxury pack. Lexus, as I’ve previously written, seems more trying to straddle the fence between sport and lux than truly compete in the race. [...]

These days horsepower numbers are getting so huge that there should be a shift in focus back to driving dynamics. This is why BMW will continue to reign king in this segment. But give Toyota credit for trying, if they want to they could drop millions into development to boost brand image. But I agree that this will more likely be more of an Mercedes AMG-type vehicle, if it does in fact get the green light.

With the current level of driving excitement it won't be an M3 fighter. Lexus does better competing with Mercedes.
