The 5-stage color is so far available only in Japan.
Lexus has introduced in Japan a new retina-searing color for its GS F sports sedan, a hue called Naples Yellow Contrast Layering.
Lexus's F-series of performance cars has never been color-shy. The series was introduced with the IS F in Ultrasonic Blue, which became the sub-brand's trademark color. That was followed by a bright orange called Molten Lava when the RC F was introduced. Naples Yellow Contrast Layering joined the family in Japan on Thursday.
Its introduction also comes with the standardization of a blind spot monitor. It is already standard on US-spec GS F models, along with rear cross-traffic braking.
As for the yellow, it is applied with Lexus's proprietary paint technology, a five-stage contrast layering process that starts with the whitest white base, followed by a high-saturation yellow base, then a clear coat, followed by a yellow mica base, and a final clear coat on top. The process adds a $1,480 premium on top of the car, which in Japan costs $102,230 (as opposed to the $85,940 US price if a premium color such as Ultrasonic Blue Mica is selected).
It should be noted that Naples Yellow Contrast Layering has been available on the Japan-market Lexus LC since last year, but has not shown up as an option for US-spec LC models. Therefore, it might not make it here for the GS F either.
