Independent German automaker Melkus is developing a successor to the legendary Melkus RS1000 sports car. The project is headed by Peter and Sepp Melkus, son and grandson of race car driver Heinz Melkus, who died in 2005.

The company plans to produce 25 RS2000s per year, in addition to the limited-edition replica RS1000s. Power will range from 130 to 200 horsepower, which should be sufficient for the cars sub-2200 lbs weight. Zero to 62 mph will take 5.0 seconds, and top speed will be 155 mph. Like its predecessor, the car will feature gullwing doors. It will also have a six-speed manual transmission, four-piston brakes, and 17-inch wheels. Illustrations after the jump…
