Lincoln gets spotlight in new Kanye West video

05/25/2006, 9:32 AM

In February, the Detroit News reported that Lincoln MKZ would have a starring role in rapper Kanye West’s next music video as part of a promotional agreement with Ford. This week, the video was finally released. The new single, “Drive Slow,â€? features Paul Wall, GLC, and an extra verse from T.I. The Lincoln Mark LT also appears in the video. Images and video after the jump…

The 2nd picture shows the back end of a mid-90s Chevrolet Impala. Not bad, but not Lincoln.

Licoln was once a big aspirational vehicle for that demographic. It’s lost some of it’s luster and Ford is obviously trying to regain it. Chrysler and Cadillac have pretty much made Lincoln obsolete.

All these endorsements will not do any good. The Lincoln is essentially a flawed vehicle. It is styled too conservatively for mature buyers. So sad…

There’s a shot of a Bentley Continental Flying Spur at the end of the video too, maybe Ford was trying to be slightly more subtle and not hit you on the face with the product placement?

What they forget is that commercials can’t move an overpriced MKZ. Now, if it was $25k… that’d be different.

Overpiriced MKZ? From everything I have read about the new lincolns they’re actually pretty good deals as far as luxary cars are concerned. In fact, my neighbor was looking at a Zephyr that the lincoln dealer was asking $24 or $25k for, and yes, it was new, but now sold. If that’s an overpriced luxary vehicle, I don’t know what anyone could get for the same price.

For anyone that might think the Lincoln MKZ sales will suck, just take a look at how the Zephyrs are doing right now. #12, if the Lincoln is such a flawed vehicle, the why the success? Try reading the following article at the link below and think about wether or not the Lincoln really is a flawed vehicle.

Hmmm… I think it is a bold move. Funny though, I had heard that Cadillac’s reason for not castrating the Escalade’s name to ‘ETS’ was partly due to it’s success and recognition within the hip-hop community. (Reference Chappelle show’s “Reparations” sketch HIGH-larious) It will be interesting to see how this plays out for Ford.
But, I gotta say sorry Ford. That Mark LT can’t touch the (old) Escalade EXT. It will take maybe a month longer than that ugly ass Blackwood to fall.

Well, mr. anonymous, I have an answer for that. The MKZ is a new vehicle so people will still buy it to try out the new model. Lincoln will be hard pressed to even SUSTAIN that sales push WITHOUT REBATES or DISCOUNTS that other premium players do not have to contend with.

wow u say the mkz is overpriced, u must be stupid or something, i went to the dealer today, and they were from 29 to 35, thats pretty decent, compared to a fully loaded cts, its 40 grand. It’s still sad they dis-continued the Ls. That car had everything, they just left it to defend itself. The mark Lt they had alot their too, they are badass, and yea they do beat the **** out of the ext, with a 11 thousand dollar less, it even outsold the ext lastyear, 10 thousand over 7 thousand, they mark lt is getting a refresh for 07 with new headlights and a new grille so thats all i saw, but they did say their is goen to be an upgraded 5.4 v8 giving around 350 plus h.p till the hurricane arrives. so smoke that

The new lincolns look much better than the ugly ass “edgy” Cadillacs, but Lincolns drivelines and chassis are well economay cars. Ford has sold Lincoln down the river, and made them an Acura competitor not a Cadillac copetitor. I can understand a front wheel drive entry level economy car, but Ford plans to underpin the entire Lincoln line-up with Mazda and Volvo based FWD frames! I will not spend over $30,000.00 on a glorified economy car ever. Just 5-10 years ago that’s what Cadillac was and nobody really wanted them GM learned that leason and apparently Ford hasn’t. Though I do like the LT way better than the Avalanche/Escalade.
