Ford knows that if Lincoln is going to be taken seriously as a rival to Cadillac, its lineup needs to be rear-drive. It will not be taken seriously until then.

Oh, and ALPRAZOLAM, please do not spam.

Because the US makers leave the nameplates unredesigned, to rot until they earn a bad reputation, thus making reuse of the nameplate inviable. They save money by not redesigning the cars every 5 years. Coming up with a new name is still cheaper than full reengineering every 5 years. Nationalism dictates Americans to buy lots of American cars anyways, so there's that safety net.

This is my biggest problem with American auto makers. brands come and go. Got a BMW 3 series? you got decades of history and legacy behind it.

Got a Honda Civic same thing.

Got a Tempo?
What happened to the Neon?
Where's Plymouth (If anyone really cares)?

How about US automakers settle on some decent nameplates and then improve those same vehicles over time? Buy a US car and you'll have no clue whether it will actually exist in 10 years. No such fear on a Honda, BMW or Toyota.
