Lincoln MKS production to begin in two years

02/06/2006, 8:38 AM

By admin

Ford will begin building a production version of its Lincoln MKS Concept in February 2008, according to a report by Automotive News. A supplier said the car will go into production “pretty much as shown at the auto show.” The report suggests a second derivative of the MKS, also for Lincoln, will go into production later that year. Many automotive enthusiasts have wondered how long it will take Ford, GM, and Chrysler to bring their high-profile concepts from this year’s Detroit auto show to market. Will 2008 be soon enough for the MKS? Post your thoughts in our comment section…

In a word, no… Cars it so clearly competes against today (the Acura TL/RL, for example) will already be 3-4 yrs old and ready for replacement. The MKS, with technology for today, might end up being yet another “good” US effort that just hits the market after its competitors have already leapfrogged it…

Absolutely love the car…

I will buy one…IF…they get rid of that FAT MAN’s steering wheel which will remind EVERYONE of the FAT MAN cars they built in the 80’s.

Lincoln/Ford need to have this vehicle availabe to the public for purchase no later than September, 2006 as a 2007 model or February 2007 as an eary 2008 model.

Will it be front or rear wheel drive? I hope it’s not another ‘6′ car.

Garris and Bryan are exactly right. This car needs to be on sale now. It needed to be ready when the LS was discontinued. How can you attract customers when your brand is not offering a product in that segment for a year or more? I’m sure it will be a nice effort, the LS was a nice effort, it sold well it’s first couple of years. But the LS was allowed to languish too long and now the follow-on won’t be ready until 2008? So Lincoln dealers have what cars to sell? The Zephyr, excuse me, the MK Z and the Town Car? (I’m not including trucks for the moment) How can they revive a brand with only 2 car models?

Except for the hideous tail designs on both the MKZ (a cross eyed monstrosity) and the MKS (Saturn Ion), these cars have great exterior styling.

Give the damn thing a proper name and I will consider dropping the $40,000 I earned on it.

i like this car its really sweet, it would be better if they showed it in black, it kind of looks like a acura tl but its a fanceier verision than honda junk, well as far as looken like an olds aureoa who cares the companys gone so, and lincoln added the lincoln **** to it so dont critise, ur your just sayen **** but dont like ford/lincoln/mercury then why are you waisten your time. The horsepower is a def. improvement, although one thing i dont get about lincoln is that the towncar is powered by a 4.6 and gives 239 hp, and the new explorer pumps out of the same 4.6 292hp why isnt the townie getten that. Ford i realize isnt the greatest with engines but they work and u dont need tons of hp you’ll never use. But the one in the whole lincoln line that really brought people to lincoln is the navigator, its the main player in lincoln

I agree with the comment that it is a little too late and needs to be out much sooner. The options are great for Lincoln however, BMW already has the same options NOW!! By the time this car is ready the ‘new’ options will be ‘old’ already! Typical Lincoln but, will most likely buy one as I am a lincoln fan!!!
