SEMA 2009: Lincoln MKT Panache concept

11/03/2009, 3:00 PM

By Andrew Ganz

Lincoln’s all-new MKT crossover has a distinctive style of its own, but that didn’t stop Ford and customizer Rick Bottom of Mendotta, Illinois, from applying a unique look to the car to create the Panache concept.

Starting with a lowered MKT – thanks to H&R springs that brought the beast down by 1.2 inches up front and 1.9 inches out back – Bottom added 22-inch COR Forged Valhalla wheels. To set off the new stance, Planet Color “Turnin’ Orange” paint was applied to the crossover. Special chrome moldings and shaved door handles helped complete the unique appearance.

The MKT wasn’t significantly altered mechanically from its front-wheel-drive, 3.7-liter V6 origins. A K&N air filter, Odyssey battery and Amsoil lubricants round out the underhood modifications.

Nice grille. Should offer retractable hooks and a vertical BBQ attachment.

It might be the lighting but it actually looks nice in that color. Still not as cool as the concept was.

Breaking News:

The sales figures & votes are in and have been counted. It’s official folks.
Lincoln has the ugliest products in dealer showrooms across the country and nobody wants them.

I’ve asked this question before & I’ll ask it again. WHY DOES LINCOLN STILL EXIST?

Lincoln is dead, Mercury is the new future. I say scrap Lincoln and bring the European Fords over, give them a few Mercury styling tweaks and luxury/tech upgrades, and there you go you’ve got Ford’s very own BMW/Lexus/Audi. Also can’t forget a Mercury non-rebadged version of the Taurus, maybe a Mercury version of the Edge, and a sports coupe that Lincoln almost had with the MKR, God knows why they didn’t make that.

Okaaaay?/! Question, if it’s true that what someone drives is a manifestation of their true inner self and/or an expression of a self-idealized image that one wants to project to the world, what pre tell would the owner of this be trying to tell the world?/! Hmmm…. Things to ponder or then again maybe not;-)

DB9;-)

PS. A Freudian could have a field day with this, well, at least until the insurance runs out and the MKT suddenly becomes sexaaay, nope nothing wrong with it all ;-) ) Hey, it looks better than a Crosstour whatever… Speaking of Honda/Acura… Btw, where’s trippy? I wonder how he’s taking Acura’s walk on the boulevard of broken dreams; the road to ruin… Tripp, need a couch and an ear – see above;-)
