Sad to see the LS go. It was a great car, but Ford was stupid and never updated it. They let the car die while the competition became better and better. Now they are the only luxury manufacturer without a competitor in the above $40K range.

I hope that Lincoln MKS concepy makes it into production, like now. Not early 2008, no one would care about the car then.

Steve: absolutely agree with you! Ford just needs to put out a better version when they re-design this car and I'm sure it'll be a winner (again). :-)

This car received accolades when it was first released. The real failure here was in marketing. A well made car that is loved by its owners should not be that hard to sell. Get it on TV, and in the papers. This was the BEST American sedan until the Chrysler 300.

I think killing the mercury brand now and making the mercury-attired cars fords would do wonders for ford sales, btw. I think the major objection to mercury's is that they can get the ford for cheaper, and the problem with the fords is that they feel cheaper than they ought to, which is usually somewhat cheaper than the mercury model feels! eliminate the virtually kudos-less mercury brand, but slap some ovals over the bent upside-down-Ls...and hey-presto, incrementally more attractive line with fewer models to manage. Either that or instead of just killing mercury, give them a single hot-rod model that harks to the lead-sleds of the 40s/50s. But make sure it calls upon just one's own brand. the prowler would have been a big seller if it had been ford's idea and had had a 302 or 4.6

I love my LS v8. bmw drivers sneer, but I think its because they knew it was a legit attempt. People (not car-freaks) never believe me when I tell them it's a lincoln, but there's no end to the line of people who chuckle under their breath when I tell them I drive a lincoln. There is a MASSIVE gulf between this car's reality and the brand image. There needs to be a new ('60s style) continental, like, tomorrow, or this brand is next up after mercury kicks the bucket.

Big mistake to discontinue this car. The segment is fruitful, plenty of market to slice a piece from. Too bad Ford is weak. They need design, innovation, creativity. Making interpretation of retros is so early 2000. Makers like Audi, for instance, put out iconic cars such as the TT and the RS4. Lexus does its thing on the hybrid front. BMW. Even Cadillac has reinvented itself. Why is Lincoln deteriorating? Lack of passion from its employees, which translate to emotionless vehicles that neither inspire nor are lusted for.

I mean, even seen a black XLR down the road? a Z06? a spiffy red TT on rims? an blacked out 7 series? or the M5, M6? All these cars make you look twice.

My wife had a 2001 model, base V6. Slow as molasses and sucked gas like a V8. However, the build quality was pretty decent, in 49K miles it never once asked for anything other than scheduled maintenance, great chassis, the ride was smooth while at the same time it handled surprisingly well. I test drove a V8 and it was a pretty nice ride, but I almost died laughing when I saw the sticker for $44K, $34K would have been the most I would have paid for the V8 model. If Ford would have pulled their collective heads out of their ass and kept further developing and refining it, the LS would not be where it is (was?) today.

#3, exactly. Makes an excellent alternative to a 300C. But thing is going to get killed on resale. Shame on Ford for letting such a good car wither on the vine without updates.

drop it to $23k and I'll buy one...

seriously. I will. At 30k, it is going toe to toe with the 300c and hemi charger. at below $25k, it is all on its own and I would buy one.

I hate fords, more than anything, but this was a great car, decrepid only from neglect. good motor, good suspension, and rwd. Plus a pretty decent interior.
