Geneva LIVE: 2014 Bentley Flying Spur

Bentley\'s new Flying Spur has wafted into the halls of the Geneva Motor Show.

Bentley's reinvented 2014 Bentley Flying Spur, complete with a more dramatic look and and thundering twin-turbo 12-cylinder engine, has made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

In contrast to its conservatively restyled two-door Continental siblings, the all-new Flying Spur sports a host of conspicuously new elements.

Raised rear hips, vertical taillights and upswept character lines give the sedan a more athletic appearance than its somewhat formal predecessor, although familiar quad headlamps and Bentley's corporate grille ensure that it's instantly recognizable as a Flying Spur.

Measuring 208.5 inches in overall length, the Flying Spur rides on a hefty 120.7-inch wheelbase. Overall curb weight is a relatively lithe - by Bentley standards - 5,451 lbs., a figure that's nonetheless well above almost anything else on the road.

The cabin holds no surprises - the dashboard is essentially identical to that of the latest Continental GT, complete with an upgraded touchscreen infotainment system that will boast Google maps compatibility. Integrated WiFi and an 1,100 Watt Naim audio system are available.

As one would expect, copious amounts of high-quality leather and wood are present throughout, and the rear passenger compartment looks to be positively palatial. Naturally, countless interior and exterior design options are available, including the bespoke Mulliner Driving Specification trim with its own leather and wood choices plus diamond leather quilting for the upholstery and door panels.

Under its new hood, the Flying Spur boasts a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine that cranks out 616 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 590 lb-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm. The engine will be exclusively mated to a ZF-developed eight-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddles. ZF also had a hand in the Flying Spur's hydraulic raack and pinion power steering system.

By the numbers, the W12 will be capable of pushing the big Flying Spur to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds before topping out at 200 mph.

Despite all the power on tap, Bentley is estimating 12/20 mpg, or 15 mpg combined, on the EPA test cycle.

Like other Bentleys, the Flying Spur features full-time all-wheel-drive (split 40/60) and it will ride on a choice of 19, 20 and 21-inch alloy wheels.

Bringing things to a halt are massive disc brakes that can be optionally upsized with carbon silicon carbide pads and cross-drilled rotors.
