Hyundai's all-new 2013 Santa Fe has arrived in the Big Apple.

Hyundai has unveiled its all-new 2013 Santa Fe crossover at the 2012 New York auto show. The 2013 Santa Fe gains new styling inside and out, as well as a seven passenger option.

The entry-level version of the Santa Fe will continue as a five-passenger model for 2013 -- dubbed the Santa Fe Sport -- but buyers will now have the option of a seven-seater model (known simply as the Santa Fe).

Both versions of the 2013 Santa Fe were designed around Hyundai's "Fluidic Sculpture" design language, but the Korean automaker says the CUV ushers in the company's latest "Storm Edge" design theme. "Storm Edge" will eventually make its way to the rest of Hyundai's SUV lineup.

Although both models share similar styling, the long-wheelbase version of the CUV does get a few unique cues. Compared to the standard Santa Fe Sport, the longer Santa Fe receives a unique grille design, bespoke 18-inch wheels, flush dual exhaust tips and a body shape aft of the B-pillar that accentuates the crossover's added passenger and cargo room.

Under the hood
The 2013 Santa Fe Sport models arrives with an all four-cylinder engine lineup. The CUV's standard engine is a 2.4L developing 190 horsepower, with a 264 horsepower 2.0L turbo four on offer. Front-wheel drive is standard, but those wanting a little more performance can opt for an all-wheel drive system that features Hyundai's Torque Vectoring Cornering Control.

Both engines shift through a six-speed automatic transmission, returning up to 33mpg for the naturally aspirated model and 31mpg for the Santa Fe Sport 2.0T model.

The larger Santa Fe receives its motivation from the same 3.3L V6 and six-speed gearbox found in the Azera sedan. Developing 290 horsepower, the Santa Fe is tops for V6 fuel economy in its class, returning 26mpg on the highway and 19mpg in the city.

Sizing things up
The Santa Fe boasts an overall length nearly nine-inches longer than its five-seat counterpart, giving second row passengers an extra 1.9 inches of leg room. Of note, the Santa Fe offers more second-row leg room than the Chevrolet Traverse.

Cargo capacity is also up by 5.6 cubic feet, giving the Santa Fe more cargo room that the Chevy Equinox and Ford Edge. A power liftgate helps makes the most of that added space.

But despite those size advantage, the Santa Fe is extremely light on its feet. Thanks to a architecture that makes use of high-strength-tensile steel, the 3,459 pound Santa Fe Sport is a whopping 539 lbs lighter than the Ford Edge. Even the long-wheelbase Santa Fe is relatively lithe with a curb weight of 3,861 lbs.

Look for both versions of the 2013 Santa Fe to arrive on dealer lots later this year.
