2013 GMC Terrain Denali to list from $35,350

GMC's upmarket Terrain Denali will start at just over $35,350.

GMC's hot-selling, blocky-styled SUV has officially been given its long-rumored, range-topping Denali treatment. Set to arrive in dealers soon as a 2013 model, the nearly fully-loaded Terrain Denali will list from $35,350 including a $825 destination charge.

The all-wheel-drive Terrain Denali will start at $37,100. Denalis come standard with the same 2.4-liter, 182-horsepower four-cylinder as standard Terrains, but a new-to-the-Terrain 3.6-liter V6 is a $1,500 option. Bundled with the V6 is an upgrade from 18 to 19-inch alloy wheels.

The new, larger 3.6-liter V6 produces 301 horsepower and 272 lb-ft of torque, up from the 264 horsepower, 222 lb-ft of torque 3.0-liter V6 found optionally on last year's GM crossovers. The new V6 is expected to produce the same fuel economy as the less powerful engine it replaces, putting it at 17 city, 24 highway with front-wheel drive, or 16 city, 23 highway with all-wheel drive. If the 3.6-liter sounds familiar to you, that's because it's a slightly detuned version of the engine used in the Terrain's Cadillac SRX kissing cousin. The SRX and Terrain share much of their platform.

The Denali styling package is differentiated from the less luxurious offerings with which it shares its name by a signature Denali chrome grille, satin chrome accents, monochrome front and rear fascias, monochrome rocker panels, satin chrome molding, exclusive headlamp and taillamp designs and dual chrome exhaust tips for the V6, or a single tip for the four-cylinder.

Inside, exclusive black leather adorns the seats and door inserts, while red French stitching contrasts on the dashboard. Smoked mahogany wood trim, Denali logos and illuminated door sills round out the package.

Aside from cosmetics, the new trim level also adds dual-flow dampers, which provide a smoother ride and improved handling.

Other on-board technology includes forward collision alert and lane departure warning, side blind zone and rear cross traffic alert. Options are limited to a touch screen navigation and a few rear cargo storage accessories.
