Germany’s Loremo AG at the Geneva Motor Show unveiled the Loremo LS — a concept car with an incredible fuel efficiency of 157 miles per gallon. The engine is a two-cylinder diesel with just 20 horsepower. The car weighs just 992 pounds, and has a top speed of 100 mph. Unfortunately, the sprint to 60 mph takes 20 seconds. However, the company also detailed a “GS” model with 50 horsepower and a top speed of 137 mph. Loremo says it plans to produce the car for the 2009 model year. The LS model will cost around $13,000, the company said.

I think its great, as long as they make this vehicle Bio-Diesel friendly this means that i will be able to drive 1500 miles for ~$10.00, i could care less if its possible to get run over by soccer moms.

100mph on 20hp??? I find that seriously doubtful, even@just 992lbs……which i think is still fairly heavy on just 20hp to git triple digit speeds. (my lawnmore has 17.5hp). pwr/weight just don’t add up to me for tha speed

wow this is cool, if they pack in the interior with goodies and keep the exterior hi-tech looking, i would get that GS model…i’d only have to fill up this car maybe once a month, then my IS350 can play on the weekends, not to mention this thing is cheap!

The “sprint” to 60 mph? I’d say more of a “crawl”.
Looks good (except for the rims). One can tell this car was designed partly at the drawing board and partly in the wind tunnel (which is why, Kendall, I guess they can get a three digit top speed on such a weak engine).
One thing concerns me, though: why is it that all the latest concept cars are going for a “Birdcage” style access to the vehicles?
Are doors in cars so untrendy? I’d still like to smash my door when my 20hp diesel engine fails..
Just joking. Cope with me

Just goes to show that diesel is the answer in the short- to mid-term. When will America wake up and realise this? For now, hybrids and fuel-cell cars are just expensive toys.

Once they starts to mass producing hybrids engine it’ll be more cost effective.
This car is pretty nice. Lacking a lot of torque though 0-60 in 20 sec wow. They should turbo it with the wasted car energy they can add more torque and power to the engine and hopefully sheds a few sec off. I’m sure if they replace it with a quasiturbine it’ll have more than enough torque for this car lol.

yeah, the LS will get you in the showroom, but they’ll only be able to sell GS’s…. 80 mpg is still incredible, and 0-60 in 10 seconds just means you’ll be driving it marginally more violently to keep with traffic. Cars today are capable of moving far faster than they’re required for traffic, this’ll do fine. 20 hp and 0-60 in 20 seconds is scary….. the only other car that slow that I can think of is an h1, and nobody’s gonna rear-end one of those…

Wake up America! The oil will be gone sooner with all those SUV’s you drive. Soon, the only oil around will be extracted from plants, and you can’t grow enough to run all those fat SUV’s. So what, 0 – 60 in 20 seconds is faster than walking! by 2025 this kind of car will be the only viable option. By the way, it has a turbo, otherwise 0 – 60 would be slower than 20 seconds. Oh! and top speed is restricted by gearing and air resistance (friction).

Another wishfull thinking car. These things get nowhere. A deathtrap and a rolling chicane. Styling is a bit homemade, engine has no torque figure claimed which is the most important thing on a diesel and you need torque to get quickly up to a reasonable speed, not power.
Overall package is wrong.

I think loremo is very useful car to run daily from A to B as the fuel price going up every year and save you more money on the long run. No point to drive fast every day as too many speed camera on the road? The problem is no good for family of 4 and not enough space in the boot. better idea the car is ok for couple only. I am still thinking about get one of those in 2009
