Edmunds has posted a detailed look at 2006 Lotus Elise. “This may be the best car in the world — if all you need it to do is stay ahead of whatever’s chasing it,” writes Greg N. Brown. “If Bonnie and Clyde had a 2006 Lotus Elise they might still be on the run.” But the Elise isn’t just a great getaway car — it’s also a “wonderful way to get away from the daily motoring slog.” The Elise has some impressive track numbers, but it’s handling prowess, not ultimate speed, at “the core of the Elise’s brilliance.” Brown describes the Elise as an “affordable exotic” because its price — $50,000 — is far less than one would expect to pay for a “supercar” from Lotus . Recently, we pointed readers to some highlights of what’s new for 2006 for the Lotus Elise.
