I really wish that Lotus would leave the “Esprit” name in the past. The car was sold for many years w/out much of any upgrades.
In some ways, IMO, it’s a damaged moniker.

The “Elan” on the other hand is a good moniker though I dunno if I like it’s concept incarnation.

Great to see Lotus back, and in such force. All these models are posting impressive numbers. I’m a little underwhelmed by the new design language though. It all looks a bit Japanese. Maybe the DNA from all those Toyota engines is starting to leak out.

If this is the “ultimate” why does it share the same engine and power rating as some of the other models? Its not that I think its lacking in power, 612 is impressive. Maybe detune the non”ultimate” models.

Oh, I am not saying they need to go back to the drawing board or anything. It is a beautiful car, but I was just thinking that the if the bump in the back were nudged in the forward direction just ever-so-slightly, it would look much better back there. Just an opinion is all.

The rear end looks a little “bulbous” because it is an MR car, with a unique tail, whose photo was taken using a wide angle lens from about 10 feet away. I’m sure in person, or when the official pictures are released, or in person the car will look extremely beautiful and appropriately contemporary.

Also, I’m fairly certain that the shape of the rear is also an aerodynamic consideration. Besides it looks very refreshingly different from the usual chopped off, “bullet” butts of most of super sports cars cars.

If you are going to do a Kammback tail, then do it right or do something else. Lotus obviously chose to do something else.

I have seen this already on a couple other sights and it has been said that the rear end is a little bulbous. I think I may have to agree with this. From the profile it looks good, but if seen from the rear quarter the arse does seem to stick a little much. If they knock in that bump below the taillights, it will be perfect.

I wonder if the will put the hand break on the floor board like they did with the original?
