A recent issue of U.K.-based CAR Magazine focused on the forthcoming Lotus Europa, an all-new 2+2 coupĂ© from the British automaker. The car is described as Britain’s answer to the Porsche Cayman or 911. “Why should people buy a Porsche 911 when they could have a Lotus?” asks Kim Ogaard-Nielsen. The car will offer 30 mm (around 1.5 inches) more headroom, and is only 60kg (around 130lbs) heavier than the Elise 111R. 0-62mph will be take around 5.0 seconds, thanks to a new 197hp turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. The Europa will be more grand tourer than track car, according to CAR. “The Europa is more relaxed to drive,” says Lotus product cheif Tony Shute. The new engine might only have four cylinders, but it “feels like a big V6,” Shute says. Pictured right is CAR‘s computer rendering of the Europa (click for enlarged view).
