Information is still sketchy, but this not-quite-right-looking Lotus Exige is actually powered by the 3.5-liter V6 engine right out of the Evora. This crafty camouflage is hiding the next Exige – but nothing was able to hide the evidence of the 3.5-liter V6 from our spies.
The Exige, which is essentially a coupe version of the iconic Lotus Elise roadster, would be downright rocket-fast with the Evora’s V6 mounted where the Toyota-sourced four-cylinder currently lies. The four-banger cranks out 220-horsepower, while the also Toyota-sourced V6 puts out a solid 276 ponies.
Expect chassis and suspension upgrades to go along with the new powertrain. We’ll update you as we learn more about this exciting new Lotus variant.

NMOfGM,
I know I won’t make any dent in your ignorant and stubborn personality. But so that no one else on here actually believes anything that you say:
I own a supercharged lotus Elise. I considered the Sky Redline when shopping. I drove the Sky and the engine is beautiful but GM completely ruined the entire package when the put a TRUCK 5 speed manual in the car…
The lotus is far superior in driving aspects to the Sky and Solstice. Even as stubborn as you are, if you actually DROVE any of the cars you make comments on, you would agree that for a drivers car, you cant beat a lotus, especially not with a Sky or Solstice.

Hey Needs More Penis,
I would give you one guess where the Ponitac/Saturn cars are derived from. But since you would no doubt fail harder than trying to graduate 5th grade, I will just tell you that they are derived from the Vauxhall VX220 which is a close cousin to the Elise.
Go sit in the corner, suck your thumb and let the grownups talk.

The part that I dont understand is how left lane can claim they know there is a v6 in there… The body looks exactly like a MY09 exige with fender flairs riveted on. I know a few lotus owners with flairs very similar to those. So from the outside it looks exactly the same as any other modified exige, I dont get how they can claim they know there is a v6 inside? I would think there is just as good of a chance that they caught someone running around in a modified exige and thought it had a different engine.

I believe that Toyota V6 actually puts out close to 300hp… if it is the same one from the Camry. Sadly enough a V6 Camry is one of the fastest cars on the road for under $25,000. That engine is a monster.

RaineMan,
I beleive you are incorrect. The 3.5 they speak of is the non direct injection engine that is in the Evora. The 3.5 you speak of has direct injection and does not fit longitudinally in the Evora nevermind the even smaller elise/exige.

Been a while since I’ve done this:
@NMOFGM: You must be completely mentally retarded if you say the Kappa Twins are better than the Exige. Nothing it’s size can beat it, even a Porsche Cayman S PDK because, it’s extremely light and it has a mid-engined layout. NMOFGM: You need to hit yourself at your 1973 Chevy Chevette or whatever POS you have.

I have always thought a 300 Hp turbo 4, like an EVO or STI motor would perfect the Lotus experience. Lazy V6 personality does not seem to fit the car too me. Everyone is talking about the lightness of the car making it great, but no concern over added Lbs of V6.

The Camry V6 looks like its a real good engine, I sat in a bunch of Camry’s once and some them actually sounded decent, not sure if its the V6 or not.

I also don’t get Lotus’ addiction to Toyota engines. Put the LNF in there and wahoo! Over 300hp… that is a beast. Who needs the extra weight of a V6 when you have a turbo 4 that can push like that.

Lotus should just use a lightweight 4-banger with a larger twin-turbo and push the power higher than the V6 without all the weight. And if they use sequential turbos of different diameters/variable angle (a la 911 turbo), then kiss goodbye to turbo lag.
Long live quality turbo 4-bangers!!

i second scratchy and shaver, but i think the S52b32 inline-six from the M3 would probably not fit in the elise / exige engine (dimension-wise), even though it would very well as far as character is concerned.
also, in my opinion, honda k20a / k20z engines (Civic Type-R, Si), or k24a2 / k24z3 with 11:1 compression ratio (Accord Type-S / TSX) would be much better fit (same ore more extreme character) with no sacrifice in capable fuel-efficiency, improved reliability over the the supercharged Celica GT-S engine, and the same or increased performance

Over here in the UK there is a grand old tradition of putting a K20A into Series 1 Exiges, Elises and series 2 Elises (same shape you have in the US).
I defy anyone to have a ride in a supercharged chargecooled 360bhp Exige and want to put anything else in it… it is sensational.
For those wanting more… go see Frank (Ronin) over at MonkeyTuner.com… he has a 500+bhp S2 Exige that he blows up once a month. That that thing goes so fast it goes back in time!
If you want to see more… YouTube is your friend.
