i highly doubt its crash tests standads keeping these wonderful cars away from the U.S. Currently, the XK in Europe has to have this wierd popping hood to soften a struck pedestrian's hit on the car. That technology doesn't come on US XKs. The regulations keeping Lotus away must be emissions... =/

Lotus is run by idiots.

After allowing the US market to languish while the rest of the world got the Elise, they finally bring that car over here and it is, according to Lotus themselves, more successful then the wildest speculation (in the US). So how does Lotus react? Do they bring their even more powerful/more advanced vehicles here? Do they begin to take up a global design strategy to only create vehicles that are (with minor tweeks) world market ready? Do they try to build up the wave of goodwill they just bought with US consumers for bringing such a unique, passionate and amazing car (as the Elise/Excige) to the US? Nope... they decide to let it languish in the market. Just like what they did before.

Usually, I recomend against this, but hire an MBA or two. Americans spend more money on high end cars then anyone else. Every other automaker has finally recognized that building "Euro Only" performance cars is an outdated idea. Get with the program already...

If you think your pick-up truck can out corner the Lotus, you are seriously delusional.

You don’t only buy the perceived ‘fun’ of the car, you also buy the quality of the interior / exterior / paint, how good the service is, etc… all of which are areas where GM is severely lacking.

And yes, the meaningless posts by cowards are getting a bit tired…don’t you people have anything better to do? Never mind, I answered my own question.

And no, I dont include the Corvette in that group of crappy GM cars, is one of the best on the planet, esp the Z06 and for the price can get it and a Cayman and still be right around a 911 but have more fun and 2 cars.

Are we sure it's not a typo and they mean crash testing? I know they said the Europa wasn't comnig here since it would be too hard to meet the crash standards even though they got the exemption for the Elise/Exige model(listed as one model to save testing time and money) Supposedly they can't get a second one for a new car and might get the current one yanked because of insurance company pressure. Looks like the same thing that killed the original Britcar movement (MGs and Healeys) will kill this one too. Small wonder why GM and Ford are crashing and Chrysler had to be bought out, even competition has to be legislated out to try to stand them up instead of making a decent car.

It's expensive to import the cars to the U.S. and they can only sell a small number of them, so it's understandable if they don't rush to bring new models over.

I'm not entirely sure either, #2, but everything I've heard recently makes me think the U.S. has all-around stricter standards.

i just love it when biased non productive meaningless comments come from readers who dont want to identify themselves. anyway i thought some european emissions were stricter than ours? i believe that they just have no standard for co2 emissions, isnt this easily rectified or am i just really wrong
