“I’ve owned my Toyota [Avalon]] for [10~15] years and have no problems.”

This recall is an scam. There are no such things as recalls.

What is an recall?

HEY! I like Oldsmobile! The 442 (1968-1972), Toronado (1966-1970, 1986-1992), and the Aurora (1994-2003) are among my favorites. They have a maturity and vigor lacking in most GMs, at the time or now. Olds was just a better brand than Buick.

But yeah that 1950's style City and 1960's style airline style commercials were really rather lame.

Why do they keep that car on their roster? Almost no one knows it exists. Those that do know, wish they didn't.

I was against him buying it for the safety reasons. I was trying to convince him into a Cobalt Coupe XFE but he got a better deal on the Corolla and knowing nothing about cars took it right away instead of holding out and seeing if an even better deal on a better car would come along, which it did, in the form of a Focus sedan, and i wish he would have gotten the Focus or a Cobalt. The Civic was an option but he doesn't really like Honda products anymore. Can't blame him. But his dad i.e. my brother-in law insisted that he get the Corolla too because according to him, "Ford's are still Ford's and Toyota holds better value over the competition." He also claims the Taurus is still a Taurus. He doesn't get that a name doesnt make a car.

I have noticed that in many cases people that post, "I love my Toyota, it is all lies, government is out to get them," then add, "I've owned my Toyota [VEHICLE HERE]] for [10~15] years and have non problems."

But that is the key point. I think Toyota quality started to slide 1996 to 1997 when decontenting started, industrial design became more conservative, and production started to scale. The cracks that were clearly evident by 2003 to 2004 started to show themselves in 2006, in a odd twist with the 2006 Avalon launch, which left many customers unhappy with product quality, steering and transmission issues. Each launch after that got worse and worse and worse.

My sister has a 1997 Camry with 185K miles on it. It looks brand new, inside and out (and the inside is the amazing part). It has given her no trouble. It just runs and runs and runs. She looked at a 2008 Camry and couldn't believe how "junkie" (her word) it was compared to her car. Cheap ill-fitting plastic, rubbery controls, and MPG that has gone backwards.

Toyota built, past tense, many many great models. They are so far off the path right now. Why anyone would buy a Corolla today given all the great choices in the class and price range is beyond me.

i love the new Avalon ads, apparently the 2010+ Avalon is targeted to Pearl Harbor survivors and raising the dead corpses of Oldsmobile owners.

Another massive Toyota recall on a problem that should have been identified long ago. What a shock.

My nephew got a new Corolla last year and he feels so unsafe. Even after he took his car in for multiple recalls, it still has problems. Steering issues, bouts of small acceleration. Now the right rear tail lamp only works when it wants too and the other day he called me out because the blinker was jammed and i had to take the whole steering column off just to fix it. So i decided i would inspect the car and what do you know, the lugs holding the hubcaps on were quite loose on all wheels and the hubcaps were able to move around. My brother (not his dad) is helping him find a good used car so he can just dump the Corolla. Its a shame how far behind Toyota has gotten. My mom drove an 01 Prism before giving it to her firend's son. It was a great car. Despite being a Chevy, it had Corolla reliability with a nice interior and decent fit and finish. It still looks brand new. Saw it the other day. Compare that to the current Corolla and your blown away.

I think Toyota needs to recall these for the blinkers that never seem to shut off for hours after a lane change.

The biggest problem with recalling Avalons is that owners are likely to nod off on the way to the dealership and then forget why they were going there in the first place.

Oh phooey who needs wheels, just slide down the highway on your belly. Without a doubt the biggest lie perpetrated on the American public in the last 20 years has been the "Toyota quality lie". And it could not have been hatched without the help of incubators like Consumer Reports, Edmunds and the rest of the media pumping the lie, blowing it up to the size of the Hindenburg. They lined up daily to take a drag off the big, wide, Toyota tailpipe, and unfortunately many of these same sources are still heavily addicted. Wake up people, the curtains have been pulled, there is no wizard, ding dong the witch is dead...........
