Lumma CLR 500 RS: BMW M5 pushed to 560 hp

01/30/2007, 10:56 AM

By admin

German tuning firm Lumma-Design has put together a tuning kit for the BMW M5 sedan. It features extensive body modifications, including carbon fiber roof, trunk, and hood; new front and rear aprons; a widebody kit with larger fenders; new side skirts; and more.

It also features 21-inch wheels, extra-wide Yokohama tires, a performance exhaust system, extensive chassis tuning, upgraded H&R suspension, and more.

Most notably, the car’s V10 engine has been pushed from a stock 500 horsepower up to 560 hp.

That is BADASS. It’s almost ricey, but would look tasteful in a different color. The wheels are awesome and I think the widebody is needed to make the M5 more aggressive than the base models.

^It’s more of an aesthetic upgrade than horsepower, but I’m sure that 60 horses is noticible it the carbon fiber reduced the weight enough.

Of course the market is limited… AC Schnitzer did similar things to BMWs and recieved generally good reactions. The orange paint doesn’t help and the body kit is outlandish, but I think its cool as hell…

Next to the new Pontiac G8, this BMW is horse****. You can tell the Germans are trying everything possible to survive the onslaught of the American Revolution. Witness the last iteration of the 3 series folks. After 2008, BMW will be no more.

asiminator, I disagree. I’m seeing tuned up german cars all over LA right now. Also, IMO it looks more like something you’d see in forza motorsport then tokyo drift (more racey then ricey). I don’t think it looks cheap. I like it.

Pontiac G8 or BMW M5… Hmmmm…
Anyway, the car would look much nicer in a different color. Unpainted carbon fiber looks great when paired with the right color. I like it because the chances of one individual doing something like this to a Beamer are slim to none.

Eh, the car lost all class and sophistication with this. They took an already akward design and made it more akward. Thank goodness they didn’t mess up the 3 series too much.

I’d like to see the dyno numbers on the improvement. Giving a round number like 560 makes me think that there hasn’t been proper testing on the output, or that there is some bufferring for marketing purposes.

If I had an M5, they would have to pay me to do this to my car.

Becuase this is a GM fansite. BMW articles are just fluff. There will always be more reaction to the GM pieces and when the fluff comes around we are going to comment on it as well until the next jucy GM piece comes.

That’s awesome. I’m not really a fan of the current 5 styling, but this is a plus.

As for sophistication, as I recall, all M’s have relatively stiff suspensions compared to their normal brethren, because BMW is still true to performance. Not the most luxurious ride. And that’s a good thing for M’s. Thank god they aren’t Mercedes-ifying them like an AMG

LLN…again you disappoint with stupid tuner news. Ricing perfectly good German cars must be your #1 passion. Only 12-16 yr olds could think this disaster is “kewl”. What a waste of time and money. This “kit” is only worthy of a Civic or WRX, not a BMW. Who the F needs 500 hp let alone 560 in the USA? No one. Keep the news to what actual adults want to buy, please.

The wheels are the best feature. you can’t call it ricey b/c it’s actually a fast car that deserves what ricers put on their cars. It’s not that tasteful, but is built for speed. Orange is a cool color, however.

I love the rear facsia, and the wheels/widebody. Dip it in Jet Black paint, and limo tint. I like orange, but on smaller cars usually.

I’m not sure GM#1 even believes everything he types, but you guys sure buy into it. He gets his kicks off of your guys reactions, so stop taking the bait! If some of you guys were fish in the pond, you would have been in the frying pan a long time ago.

That’s true ironpony42, but what if he thinks like a real enthusiast and drives a Bimmer himself then does this for kicks. HIGHLY unlikely, but I think that’s what MHW is getting at. Maybe we’re not actually taking shots at him so much as taking the bait.

Still, one the other side of the argument…I think ppl coming up with ways to dis GM#1 has become sort of leftlanenews culture. Even when the trolls are gone/taking a break, we still make jokes about them.

Ricers dream of bodykits as well integrated as that, not my thing but I’ve got to say its very well done. I could imagine myself getting one if I lived in Michigan and wanted to bait fanatical GM fans, looks almost brash enough to attract their attention.

Presumably the extra horsepower is achieved with an engine-life-shortening remap; hardly worth reporting really, I miss the days when tuners actually got their spanners dirty.
