Lutz: GM has avoided bankruptcy

04/10/2006, 10:05 AM

By admin

General Motors executive Bob Lutz told Germany’s Automobilwoche magazine that GM has avoided bankruptcy. Mr. Lutz said GM has put the worst behind itself, and bankruptcy is no longer a concern. He said there is no likely scenario for bankruptcy facing the troubled automaker. “We have put the worst behind us,” he was quoted as saying.

Comments like this really make you wonder why they haven’t fired him already. If I had GM stock, it’d be gone today.

Actually, even as a GM-hater, I’d have to agree with Scootness. Both Ford and GM stock is bound to rise….bankruptcy is not a reality.

I’d be pissed if I had bought shares in 2000, though….

it was designed by the 37yr old ‘American’ they released after HE designed the Solstice/Sky. This 73yr old geezer is why they’re adding more chrome than design – because in HIS time chrome was slathered on every barg GM made and all women wore aprons. Dumb shi_ts.

Lutz is the only hope GM has – as much as I think there are a bunch of monkeys at the wheel I do think Lutz is the real deal, now what they need:

-Get Lee Iacoca and Steve Jobs to consult,
-Shift completely to non union workers
-Fire the whole design staff (except the guy who did the Caddy convertible)
-Promote the Saab designers while stealing designers from Chrysler, Audi, and Volkswagen
-Fire the engineers and hire guys from Honda and Toyota as well as plant managers.
-Petition the government to allow them to copy the Honda hybrid engine without royalties.

Then, they might have a prayer

GM isn’t in terrible shape. For all I hear about quality, they are actually right up there with Toyota minus a platform or two. The GM minivans drag down the quality rankings of the four brands. Without the minivans, it is very likely that the GM brands would be above average for initial quality.

Mind you that Buick beat Toyota even with their ****ty minivan. Without that minivan they might have a fighting shot at overtaking Lexus.

JoJohn: Your list is longer than the one George Bush pleads for every evening on his knees before bed, and as about to happen.

…and Dave: Every GM rental car I’ve had was reliable but they were like 50cent hotdogs at 7-11.

I don’t want to be too hard on GM, I’d be the first to congratulate them if they can turn it around, but they need to either better the reliability (my friend has a new malibu and there is a laundry list of defects), or make the cars beautiful, one or the other, but they seem to miss the mark on both, same with ford, and they will have to eventually bust the union if they want to survive, probably by building the cars in Mexico – the reality is they will continue to lose market share unless they make huge strides (not likely).
