M3 CSL: A go for all future models

07/23/2007, 12:19 PM

By Andrew Ganz

In an interview, BMW’s M Division Vice President, Gerhard Richter, said that he intends for BMW to sell a CSL version of all future M3s. The CSL version is an extra light-weight version of the M3, designed to be the rawest factory M3 available.

In an interview with Edmunds, Richter said that the M3 CSL has been a success for BMW – and a model that the carmaker shouldn’t drop.

Richter also stated that BMW doesn’t currently have plans for a full-out M-version of the new 1-Series, but that he would support the idea.

Back in 2003 the M3 CSL was a pretty impressive car, and they didnt make too many of them. Do it Richter, make a lot of them.

I like the way Richter thinks. He is big on weight savings and power to weight ratios, which I’m also a proponent of. And he called Porsche 911 a Beetle! I love it!!

The seat in the Lotus Exige is so low that it makes me cringe to imagine what happens when it goes over a large pothole. The car also looks and feels like cheap kit cars. But it handles so well so who cares right?

spud, can’t tell if you were just joking, but I think they meant all future generations (including the E92 no doubt), not all body styles of the car.

Dumb comment from me… Does the new 1-series really need more than 300hp? It would run circles around an M3 if they did.

Well, you told me without thinking, the way you do most things. Nothing you could say could offend me. I only get offended by things that make sense. I’m not offended by what you say. I’m just glad that you’re stringing words into sentences now.
